When author Jim Beard of Becky Books contracted me to do covers and illustrations for his 1970s Action Figure Adventure series #DCJones I needed to come up with what the main character looked like. So I thought about the pre-Star Wars toys of my youth… #GIJoe, #AdventureTeam, #BigJim, #SixMillionDollarMan, #PulsarTheUltimateManOfAdventure… who had that same kind of strong featured face? Rugged, but not too “Movie star”. So I roughly based our hero on actor Fred Ward, who sadly passed away this week.
