Her strategy in battles is to hurt herself badly in order to incapacitate her enemies, and since she's been numbed to the pain it inflicts on itself she's able to tough through it until she gets to a safe space while her friends finish off the wounded enemies. This is not great for her already terrible mental health, obviously.
