My personal theory is that if Media is REALLY good, there isn't really... space, if you will for fans to add or change perspectives on it. Too dense, too complete. Like how coral won't grow on plastic because it's too smooth
Whereas some half-baked hot garbage has got ALL KINDS of plot holes, incomplete characterization, warped timelines, missing worldbuilding and other Spaces for fans to colonize, like coral growing on a sunken battleship.
And then if a series just sucks too much, it's not fun to interact with at all, and people won't fandomize it because it's toxic. Like how coral won't grow on sunken piles of burnt-out tires.
I call this the Fandom Barrier-Reef Theory.
I canât find any fanfic for Origin (by Dan Brown) and that makes me sad because I would love to see more of the King and the Bishopâs secret relationship. Like, câmon, decades of keeping up the illusion that Antonio was just his advisor and friend? Figuring out where the lines lay of what they could do without it being a problem with Antonioâs vows (and presumably both of their faith)? Close calls with Julien? Close calls with palace staff? Close calls with the press? Soft private moments? Shared glances that mean more than the rest of the people in the room realize? I know we donât like to think about old people in love, but they were together for decades; we can think about them not so old, too.
I let myself oversleep this morning because I figured I deserved to once in a while. So, naturally, when I dozed off again after feeding the cat, I had a dream about the unpleasant person I was briefly an apprentice to. And then Iâve been off-kilter all day and gotten very little done. Itâs not even like Iâm reliving the dream (or the experience) or anything. Itâs just brain fog. I just canât seem to stay focused. Is it PTSD? Am I sleeping poorly because my furry bedfellow is semi-waking me during the night and I donât remember it, so Iâm tired? Who knows??
(And yes I genuinely have PTSD; donât come after me for borrowing a clinical term, because Iâm not. That apprenticeship wasnât the cause, but trauma can have cumulative effects.)
So there was this conversation at a con. And it kinda made me want a fic.

IDK where to set it. But two characters having an incredibly domestic conversation about the fact that theyâve been able to establish lives and families in the time since they saved the world together (? Or something?) is justâŚsweet. Itâs the epilogue that we want to see to so many things. It paints a picture that their efforts and sacrifices werenât in vain and theyâre getting to step back and enjoy the world that they saved.

I saw a thread (screenshotted and then posted to Pinterest, so I canât find it to reblog it) about âstop taking away Charlesâ wheelchair and Buckyâs arm and Clintâs hearing aidsâ followed by a mixture of responses talking about the need for disability representation and responses making jokes about Rocket stealing them. And guys? I have a serious need for a fic where an ablest fanfic writer with a savior complex somehow gets transported to the fandom universe and uses their magic writer powers to âfixâ people (and probably some other meddling) and instead of making anything better their interference causes everything to go to shit.
