Y'all I just had another angsty Dr Stone idea (I'll probably most definitely never write because writing angst is something I definitely cannot do)
Senku starts having weird dreams of what life would have been like if the petrifaction didn't happen.
The dreams are normal enough at first, mostly his dad calling him from the ISS, hanging out with Taiju and Yuzuriha (who are together now because Taiju got to confess) starting more experiments.
However the dreams soon turn dark.
Watching Taiju and Yuzuriha cross the road to meet him at a Cafe only for a car to run the red light and Taiju pushing Yuzuriha out of the way, so the car only hit him, Taiju will live but he's paralyzed from the waist down.
Most of them are reading news articles about his friends in the stone world he probably would have never met if the prettification didn't happen.
Nanami Ryusui going missing, no one knows if he went missing out at sea on one of his many ships or if he's been kidnapped and the Nanami family are waiting for a ransom.
Shishio Tsukasa getting hooked on substances to cope with the loss of his sister. Her life support failing.
A submarine malfunctioning and sinking which he finds out was the one Ukyo was on. There's still an active search party for survivors.
Rumors of Hyoga joining the Yakuza.
He'd always wake up in a cold sweat after these dreams. He can't figure out why he keeps having these dreams. The scientist in him comes up with many theories. One being his seeing the things that a Senku in another timeline is seeing and that that is what could have happened if the prettification didn't happen.
He starts losing sleep, only sleeping when he physically can't put it off anymore. Everyone is worried. He hasn't told anyone about the dreams. Gen lectures him on the importance of sleep and how lack of it will affect him psychology and whatever is keeping him up would be that much worse or at the very least seem worse and then it'll just be a vicious cycle.
That night Senku dreams of Gen, it's just an article but it's heartbreaking 'celebrity magician and mentalist found dead in his apartment. Cause of death suicide.'
It's worse than his other dreams because those other ones relied on an outside force to end up tragic or it was something that would no longer affect the people involved, Ukyo on a submarine, Mirai's life support failing Etc. but Gen took his own life....did it have something to do with something happening to him without the petrifaction? Or was Gen, stone world Gen, the Gen he knows, his Mentalist, hiding deep depression?
Ooookay that's all I got, it was hard for me just to write this. Not because I'm sad (I mean I am but still) I just can't articulate angst well imo. I am not a serious enough person.
