so i just watched everybody’s talking about jamie and. wow. at first i was really happy because i love mj and i think his voice is perfect for musicals. i was proud of him for getting chosen for the main role. and then i watched it…
when kpop idols wear rainbow bracelets or do other minor things, we often hope they do this to show us support… but we never truly know what it represents. unless they talk about it, we never know if it’s to show us support or if it’s just for fashion, if it was chosen by their stylists etc.
but this? this is MAJOR. i cried my eyes out while watching it because it is not an ambiguous story - it is a story about gay, openly gay boy who dreams of becoming a drag queen. a story centering around drag queens, a story which deals with homophobia. a story of family rejecting you and about finding people who accept you. it is a story about growing up not fitting in, feeling odd and ugly for who you are. a story about finding yourself and being who you are, without a shame.
like. i cannot put into words how important it is to me. everybody’s talking about jamie is such an amazing musical and i am so, so proud of mj. the fact that he auditioned for this role means a world to me.
