Star wars nerd, Fic Writer, Word Scavenger

Hi! 

This is a really interesting question and I’m very happy to answer. The truth is I don’t like to,  but the fics in question were all taken down for different reasons.  So ‘The Sweetest Sign’ was taken down because I loved it so much I wanted to rewrite it into original fiction. This I did (it took me six months to rewrite it) and was published last year as ‘‘Hanukkah at the Great Greenwich Ice Creamery’. ‘Pressed’ (the one in Paris with the broken heater) I took down because I got halfway through and realised I couldn’t end it the way I wanted without seriously rewriting the beginning. It got taken down probably about eighteen months ago? I’m still writing it, unbelievably! When it’s finished I hope to share it again somehow. ‘Wanting’ and ‘Arm the Doors’ were both complete and on Ao3 but sadly both were plagiarised into a different fandom. I took both down while I decide how to proceed from here. I’d actually like to work ‘Wanting’ into original fiction, fixing all the errors I made the first time around. I don’t know... I’d love to finish the Sparrow and the Songbird, but the plagiarism (on top of the disaster that was TRoS) has kind of cooled my love of writing fic. 

I feel like I’m building this reputation as a mistress of angst and pain! That’s fine though I love it.

I have the feeling I’ll need to cut the next chapter of ‘Wanting’ in half. There’s still a little more cathartic pain to get through before our HEA.

It’s really funny- this is the fourth time this week that someone has asked me about Pressed.

The truth is I deleted Pressed (and most of my other works) because I was getting notifications and messages almost daily asking me about them. I’ve been grieving a friend I lost earlier this year and every time I saw a message I was taken back to that awful empty place of loss (she was my beta and a very good writer friend).

But I’ve been seeing a grief counsellor and she’s made me realise that avoiding things that reminded me of loss was just a delaying tactic- eventually I need to process and let go.

So, I’m trying to embrace the work I did with my friends advice, and am going back over it all. Pressed is actually complete, just unedited. Hopefully I’ll have a new beta soon and then I can start updating that fic soon.

Thanks, I’m going to update next Thursday for Arm the Doors. Hopefully there will be lots of happy tears for everyone!

I struggle to stick to a posting schedule, for a variety of reasons. The first is that I tend to be inordinately busy IRL, balancing work, my kids, my friends, and my voluntary commitments.

Also, sometimes I’ll sit to write one thing and something else entirely will come out. So this morning, I had a free hour and I was going to work on ‘The Sweetest Sign’ new chapters. Instead, I wrote a new chapter of ‘Wanting’ (entitled ‘Barnacle’). I had no idea that smutty one shot was going to develop plot, but there you go.

But I always said I would finish Arm the Doors, and I guess in about two weeks it will be done.

Wow... so, it’s been awhile. I’ve been taking a break from Reylo for the past couple of months. I lost a friend early this year (once again, fuck you cancer) and it’s hard to go back to the fics she read and edited for me. No, strike that. Actually, it’s just hard in general.

But I just want to say thank you to everyone who messaged me. I’ve been awful at replying, but your thoughts, questions and support have been appreciated.

I think I must get a message every couple of days about ‘Arm the Doors’. When I first began that fic, people would message me about Ben and Rey, begging me to write their HEA. Now, most of the messages are about Ben and Havi, begging me to let Ben meet and have a chance to be loved by his little girl.

That really touches me.

I just love how open the Reylo fandom is to themes of forgiveness, redemption and understanding that everyone, no matter their supposed crime, is worthy of love.

So, I’m going to post the final chapter on Thursday.

And then the next Thursday, I’m going to post the first ‘Rey’ chapter of ‘The Sweetest Sign’, which I’ve been working on since January. I just can’t let that fic go, and I think everyone will love the improvements I’ve been making (spoiler... more secretly soft Hux backstory).

In the meantime, I’ve screenshotted some of the final chapter of ‘Arm the Doors’ above. It’s angsty, but I put a good dollop of hope into it too.

Hey! So... I am writing a Captain Planet fic. That is true. You see, a few months back I made friends with a writer from the Captain Planet fandom. She wrote this fabulous fic that was rec’d to me by another friend, and... I kind of harassed her online before persuading her to write a Reylo fic.

But in exchange, I am writing her a fic for her own fandom. Which is Captain Planet.

I’m not going to link that fic, because I don’t really expect anyone to read it.

I’m really enjoying writing it though. It’s angsty and smutty and it’s nice to write without an audience in mind. I’m writing solely for the pleasure of writing, which is liberating, in a way. And I’m writing a gay Captain Planet, which is fun and refreshing. I’m writing him a bit like Hux in ‘Pressed’, but with superpowers. Actual superpowers.

But I haven’t forgotten or abandoned Reylo. Reylo is the ship on which I sail... I’m just visiting the Captain Planet one. An ‘Arm the Doors’ finale is planned, and then probably a Four Decembers chapter. After those fics are rounded up, I’ll work on completing ‘Pressed’, which is my favourite of all of them.
