5 who's been raised to believe he is special not only becuz of his techniques but his apex predator designation. Everything special about him is connected in his upbringing. Raised with pride, honor, and taught to show animal behavior as a show of strength and dominance-
7 who grew up as a hybrid minority in normal society, told to hide his tail and act like a normal human child. It's just a distraction. Your instincts aren't useful to modern society. Adapt, blend in, and you might be accepted. You might have the opportunity to thrive.
7 who shows up at jjtech and immediately HATES 5's posturing and constant obsession with animal designations. He stays far away from 5.
5 who immediately notices how 7 hides his tail, introduces himself without mentioning his species, acts like a normal human whenever possible-
5 knows the normals are different but it becomes a challenge for him. He watches 7 all the time, watching every subtle movement, trying desperately to find the animal behavior he needs to categorize people, to understand them. He wants to understand 7. Needs to. Doesn't know why.
Asks questions that piss 7 off: "Do you sleep for 18 hours a day?"
5's next mission: catch 7 taking a catnap.
5 finds Nanami and Haibara (shiba) napping together.. and something rages in him. They're adorable, but the cuteness mixes with unbearable jealousy-
All he can see is a vision of a snow leopard curling around a tiny cat, swallowed in the leopard's thick wintery fur... Anything else is unacceptable.
5 gets more aggressive, tries to touch, groom, chase and stalk 7.
7 is annoyed that this thorn in his side isn't going away-
One day they actually talk.
"I thought cats and dogs didn't get along"
"Do you live under a rock? What about you and Geto senpai?"
"How so? We're all human at our base, there's nothing preventing us getting along besides our *human* personalities"-a subtle jab
"We're special. The traits we have help us survive and make us stronger. Why do you hide yours?"
"There is more than one metric for strength in this world, you know"
"....Where do you hide your tail all the time?" 7 gives him a deadpan stare before lifting the hem of his uniform-
And 5's eyes almost bug out of his skull behind his glasses bcuz he's convinced against all reason that 7 is bearing his soft vulnerable stomach to him, that he'll get to see unguarded flesh- But is immediately disappointed when it's just an ironed button up tucked into 7's pants and 7's slender tail wrapped just so around his waist like a belt.
5 stares until 7 drops the hem and only then does he find the brainpower to speak
"Isn't that uncomfortable? Unnatural?"
"No. Most of us have something called restraint, senpai"
"My instincts are always right" 5 inches closer and closer to 7. "I always trust my instincts. And from the moment I saw you, my instincts knew"
5 lunges and 7 can't react fast enough to avoid getting pinned.
7's protests and hissing go ignored by 5.-
