yes nijntje was created by dick bruna, there's a whole nijntje museum in utrecht! (it's very much targeted at small kids though, every room has a bunch of exercises for them to practice skills that toddlers need to practice.) and there's also nijntje in dialect books that are nijntje translations to a dialect in the netherlands, i have one in my regional dialect. it's really fun! and i totally forgot that nijntje even had a theme song, i mostly know her from the books but now that you mention it me and my sister used to watch nijntje dvds sometimes and there was a theme song there. that's so fun that she has one in the us too! so yeah they probably just literally translated konijntje but in dutch it's "nijntje, lief klein konijntje" which sounds so cute because it rhymes and everything
