Still Men Out There - Bjorn Melhus: I found it interesting that with just the usage of lights to portray what was happening in the story and with the use of sound clips, such a powerful and meaningful story was told in under 10 minutes. You feel all of the emotions of each character throughout the entire piece.
The Clock - Christian Marclay: I really found this piece intriguing because the idea of piecing together so many clips from movies in order to make an entire 24 hour clock is brilliant. And the time, dedication and research that it must have taken to complete such a project is impressive!
Still Life - Sam Taylor Wood: I really liked this piece of work. Firstly, she took a process which is generally considered undesirable and gross (No one wants to find rotting fruit in their own kitchen) and turned it into something intriguing and to a certain degree, beautiful. On top of that she did a great job of portraying time and making it slow enough that the viewer has to have some patient, but fast enough that we see a change in a much shorter time than it actually takes to take place.
The Quintet of the Astonished - Bill Viola: Wow! This piece blew me away! I loved the range of emotions portrayed on each of their faces. I loved that each of them kept virtually the same posture in the film, but that they ranged each moving more slightly than another. I really found that the slight movement really captured the emotion even more, because it was just enough to make you feel what they were feeling.
Technology/Transformation: Wonder Woman - Dara Birnbaum: I thought this piece was intriguing! It was like a short action film. I felt that it kept me somewhat in suspense, because I did not know when the scene would change or what would happen next!
Carlin - Brent Green: This piece was really powerful. I think every small detail from the way they cut between scenes, to showing the pictures from the book about amputation, to the way his voice sounded when he spoke along with the guitar added something. It sounded as if he was telling the story from memory and not a script because you could hear the emotion and at times he sounded as though he was trying not to cry. You could feel along with him and understand his emotions. It was really beautifully made. It was a dark video for a sad subject.
Cunnilingus in North Korea - Heavy Industries: This piece had a lot of meaning. I liked the music that they put behind it. It almost does not seem fitting but in a way that makes it fit more. The way they flashed the words, and emphasized different things throughout the speech by making words bigger or smaller or on beats or between the beat and melody was interesting.
Roja - Shirin Nishat: This film was quite powerful. I felt a certain discomfort watching the man yelling at her and the way that the rest of the audience did not really deem to be present in the theatre. The way that it was filmed was very artistic and it appeared to have a lot of meaning.
