Settling Down by Jasmine Celeste
eightybillionyearsofgiggling:
I don’t ever want to settle down
those two words, “Se-ttle down,”
few understand.
Settling down is what you tell recess kids when its over,
settling down is what you tell the passenger,
the bus driver,
making a ruckus in the front.
I want to be in recess for the rest of my life,
I want to be active in someTHING everyday,
since everyday is a new opportunity to do someTHING,
original or not,
someTHING for the human race, for equality, peace, experience, knowledge.
No recess will never be over for me,
no settling down.
And my companion in life
Whoever it shall be, will join me
and our children will be trained in vitality
and will learn from the flowers and bees
how to travel through life,
with such ease and swiftness,
that are fed by the rays of sunlight and the defending clouds.
And though the ink on my skin may become disfigured by my age,
And the creases on my face may grow a deeper shade every new day,
I’ll continue my “no settling down” ways.
I’ll be the old lady in that union square protest,
I’ll be the old lady voyaging the central park soils,
awake for a new destination, by design,
I was always a comforting assistance for the restless days of existence.
