Winter forest trail - Utrechtse Heuvelrug, Netherlands,  January 2026

We had a rare snowdump here in the Netherlands during the coldsnap this month. And I promptly dropped everything to do one of the things I love most, running through the snow. The first day I wanted to go, I was blocked by the predictable collapse of the Dutch railway system. But the next day, once the winter schedule was up and running, I got to run one of the Utrechtse heuvelrug ultra trail loops through the snow. 

This also doubled as good training & test run for the arc of attrition 100 miler I’m doing next week in Cornwall. Since it’ll likely be just as slippery there, but with mud instead of snow.
