Monty has chronic joint pain in most joints, but aside from Bevan none of the others know throughout Operation Mincemeat as Monty considers it a weakness.

The way that Jean, Charles, and Hester find out about Monty's chronic pain is when he manages to overwork himself and literally collapses with pain when he tries to stand up from his desk. (And then the others tell him he's fucking stupid and help him :p)

(tbh this headcanon makes no sense but I wanted to give my pain to Monty yknow)

While working on Operation Mincemeat, Charlie was getting in his car to drive to work. Then, he noticed a bee near his face and leapt out of it, inadvertently crashing it into his neighbor's fence. (This is where the true story stops.)

He called Ewen to ask for help and Monty found his story hilarious, letting him borrow Iris' bike and telling him to lie to Bevan about why he was late. Charlie did so but was unfortunately unable to explain why he came in to work on a baby blue bicycle (which I believe was still a "girl's color" at the time) with fake flowers around the basket. Tarr, Fleming, and Masterman did NOT SHUT UP about it and Bevan had to step in after he saw a folder titled 'Operation Bicycle' on his desk, which he immediately threw out.

Bonus:

Jean had to bring Bevan some tea (unfortunately) and saw the file, and then his reaction to the file, and was so startled by her own laughter that she nearly spilled tea all over him. She was power walking out of there.

The first time Monty properly noticed was when he texted back "I love you too <3", realised 3 hours later and panic-texted Jean and his siblings to ask if it's gay to text that to the homies.

Joyce said "Yeah that's pretty gay", Stuart said "it's not gay if you keep your socks on", Ivor and Jean both said "normally yeah but if it's Charles Cholmondeley it isn't", and the whole incident managed to convince Bevan and Hester that Monty and Charles may be gay for each other but haven't realised it

Like, he's fine in a moment of adrenaline, but once that wears off (or just isn't present)... hoo boy.

He'll whine and squirm the whole time he's getting patched up. (Hester is both concerned and unimpressed.)

At one point (probably during or post-Mincemeat), he actually ends up snapping that "he's not being overdramatic, it hurts."

Charlie actually winds up offering to hold his hand, which he (semi-reluctantly) accepts. It helps.

Pretty sure we've had something like this before and i love it.

I also think she could have been pregnant when he was shipped out (if she made it to term is your choice), because it adds another layer of injustice to the fact of they were just ever so slightly too late to be granted allowances with the old rules.

She's only let one other person wear it, and that's Jean.

And looking at Jean wearing that scarf, she can't help but feel a little happy-sad because Tom would've adored her.

This makes Charlie think that Ewen must not have heard him and so he repeats it. Louder and while staring directly at Ewen.

Ewen stares back while he says it and tries not to blush!

Hester loves lists.

As an MI5 employee she has to be extremely organized. This is the reason she has so many different lists, and lists of those lists, and lists of the lists of lists (you get the picture).

You can bet she had so many lists to keep track of the whole Operation Mincemeat mess!

(and this obsession with lists is definitely an autistic thing 🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️)

Then, one day after a meeting Hester had noticed that Charlie had a tissue stuffed up his nose and had said something along the lines of, “There’s a procedure for that, you know.”

This lead to a major Monty crashout because Charlie showed up to work the next day with the characteristic spot under your nose you tend to get after a cautery.

Monty:

I think he's pansexual and polyamorous, he loves his wife, he loves Charlie, he loves whomever he can get to sleep with him. I also think he's not really care about gender, he doesn't care if people assumes he's a women.

In modern times, he'd probably label himself queer, and use he/she/they.

Charles:

Gay.

Jean:

She's a lesbian through and through, but she's demiromantic/ sexual. Discussions about intercourse, unless in terms of communication with her partner.

In modern times, she'd probably use she/they, but prefer they. The MI5 lot would check on her regularly to determine what she feels like more, like a genderfluid, but she doesn't feel as masculine.

Hester:

She doesn't really care what gender someone is, she prefers male, but if she has a crush on a woman, she has a crush on a woman. She'd be demisexual, but if she's in love with someone (Bevan, Tom etc), she's hornier than a 20 year old lad on his third spoons of the crawl.

In modern times, she probably had multiple girlfriends and boyfriends throughout school, she had a few one night stands when she was younger, mainly to try it out and see what it was like, but she didn't like it that much. In modern and original, she probably met Tom young, they got married quickly, but briefly (didn't have time to get used to it before he died), then had a couple of decades where she struggled to hold a relationship down due to grief, before she got together with Bevan.

Bevan:

He's the honorary cis straight man in MI5 (in modern times, they'd refer to him as their "diversity hire"). But he's nothing but accepting to his Queer fellows, which surprises people when they first meet him as they expect him to be homophobic (even in modern times). He and Hester have a tendency to let Jean stay at theirs when her mother's being homophobic (and anyone else really), they are the parents for anyone who has been kicked out/ discriminated against for their sexualities.

Tar:

Pansexual (cannon), poly, he/they.

Masterman:

Gay, poly

Flemming:

Bi, Poly

Willie:

Pan, will screw anyone who consents

Hasalden:

Bi, has slept with Steve, Willie, Pobil, Juan and Jose. But he does also have a wife (she doesn't care).

Steve:

Straight (or so he claims), has and will sleep (slept) with men.

Juan:

Asexual, aromantic, he tried with Hasalden, but he realised he's just not into it (no judgement off any of them).

Jose:

Does not care for labels, no clue what he likes, just happy to be included.

Spilsbury:

Aunt Gladys sexual (very popular with the ladies, but only into people as nutty as him)

Hettie and Bettie:

They just sleep with each other once a month, then do nothing else.

Bella/ Meryl:

Lesbian, demisexual. Massive flirt, had a crush on Hester (like when you crush on your teacher), but in love with Jean.

Italia/ Beryl:

labels herself straight, but will flirt with women (if she plucks up the courage). She just wants someone she can ramble about her books to.

Prezzo/ Cheryl:

Straight, was born intersex, but had all the functioning female anatomy, so had excess testosterone in her body (which made her really insecure for years, getting a lot of gender dysphoria), but her husband loves her all the same.
