You should draw Snow White's birth mother sometime.
Sorry, but I don't like Snow White's biological mother at all, so if I draw her, it will only be in the context of the Good King and Grimhilda's story.
The new Mandalorian Visual Guide book is out, so let’s see what it says about the Sisters Kryze.
I’m actually appreciative of what was established. It doesn’t fix the fracked up canonical timeline, but it also doesn’t add to it either. Whether it was intentional or not, it also seems to suggest that Bo-Katan is not that much younger than Satine. (Everyone, rejoice!)
We FINALLY have a Satine mention. This is the first time that Bo-Katan has been said to have a sister (not just a father) since she was brought into live action.
This is also the first time we’ve had an “authoritative” (for better and worse) source that has canonized the idea that Bo-Katan felt overshadowed by Satine.
But keep that in mind. We’ll come back to it.
I’m grateful that they’re pushing against the idea that Satine somehow imposed pacifism on the Mandalorians. It’s already been canon for years that Satine was confirmed as leader by the Mandalorian clans, who were exhausted from endless wars and longing for peace.
I do not like the fact that Star Wars is leaning into the idea that Bo-Katan’s participation in Death Watch was “impulsive.” It’s such a cop-out to say that Bo joined a terrorist cult by accident instead of that she was once convinced by their violent, traditionalist rhetoric and later saw the error of her ways.
(But I’m not surprised given the fact that The Mandalorian has also ceased portraying Children of the Watch as a cult that Din needs to evolve beyond.)
The way Dave Filoni used to talk about Bo’s decision to join Death Watch seems to me to imply a measured and resolute decision, not a decision made by someone young and impetuous.
I have a rather lengthy backstory that even explains how [Bo] became a Death Watch soldier that goes all the way back to the time she and Satine are six. Because to figure out how she got to that point, and yet Satine is a duchess... I have a whole story about who their father was and what their relationships were and everything with Vizsla, going back for a very long time and how that intersects with Obi-Wan Kenobi. (2013)
(TBH, it’s a little strange and disconcerting that they are overemphasizing the fact that Satine’s death was caused by Maul, who *betrayed* Death Watch, as if Pre Vizsla wasn’t already planning to kill Satine himself. It suggests to me that they’re doing their best to explain away Bo-Katan’s time in Death Watch and likely have no plans to address that issue with any kind of weight.)
However, I’m actually surprised and pleased that they did not canonize that Bo-Katan was a teenager in TCW.
I was scared by the line “exposure to conflict since her teenage years” but that actually makes more sense if you assume her teenage years were during the Great Clan Wars (the same as Satine) as opposed to during Satine’s reign.
Which, as I’ve elucidated before, is also established by The Mandalorian itself by the fact that Bo-Katan says her father was present at her Creed Swearing ceremony, which seems to happen when Mandalorians are about 13.
Based on Adoniram Kryze’s death date, Bo cannot be more than four or so years younger than Satine.
To me, the line about Bo “in her youth” being overshadowed by Satine also suggests that they cannot be more than a couple years apart in age.
If Bo was in fact a teenager during The Clone Wars, then she would have been 15+ years younger than Satine. Both of her parents would have died shortly after Bo’s birth because they are dead before Satine meets Obi-Wan, and Satine would have raised her younger sister AND her nephew-son together.
Under that circumstance, it would be so ridiculous to say that Bo-Katan felt “overshadowed” by her sister, who was functioning as her mother.
Beyond that, the book established that Bo is proficient in the same style of jet pack combat that Din Djarin was trained in. It continues to be a mystery how Children of the Watch is connected to Death Watch, which discovered Din in the first place.
It’s interesting that they still listed Bo-Katan’s homeworld as Kalevala even though she says that she was “born on” Mandalore. Maybe Mandalore just has better hospitals than Kalevala.
I don’t think this is new, but Bo-Katan is also four inches shorter than Satine, which is strange to me, but it reflects the real life heights of Katee Sackhoff and Cate Blanchett.
A friend invited me to role-play cartoons from famous studios—and here I am, the Evil Queen.
They sit, drink tea, and discuss the plebs and the weather
Yeah... let's just say she and Frollo are DEFINITELY not going to see eye to eye, let alone have tea together (if anything, Frollo's more likely to have HER burned to the stake for her being a witch, and the Evil Queen Grimhilde's more likely to have him executed due to him finding HER horrifying to interact with).
As bad as Frollo is, he's a PIKER compared to her regarding crimes (Frollo's sexually immature, only having ONE instance of lust throughout his entire lifetime and had a BREAKDOWN over it. Going by deleted scenes, Grimhilde is a repeat black widow who marries and kills her husbands as her way of expanding territory, and it's heavily implied her desire to be fairest in the land was to ADVANCE that conquest, and she's done it often enough that she used the skeletons of Kings AND Princes to scare Florian when trying to overtly intimidate him into marrying her, and then having him tortured.).
Dude, do you… Do you understand what roleplaying is?) No? Well, let me explain. In this plot twist, Frollo doesn't know she's a witch. To him, she's just a noblewoman with a similar approach to things and views on people. Next. What deleted scenes? I read a vintage Disney Snow White book with the original plot, and there was no indication whatsoever of the black widowhood scenario. A black widow in 13th-century Germany? With all Disney's love of exploring the cultures of countries and eras? God, that even sounds ridiculous. Let's also call those old Snow White comics where she had a son canon.) And yes, of course, Frollo's genocide of an entire people, which is clearly included in the canon, and his attempts at bloody murder with his own hands are still nothing compared to what Grimhilde did by poisoning the apple, yeah)
Grimhilde had an entire dungeon filled with skeletons that she presumably tortured (even without the deleted scenes, the "Thirsty, have a drink" bit in the film already made clear she did NOT treat her prisoners well), and it's heavily implied that she was feared the ENTIRE kingdom over due to even the Dwarves being reluctant to take Snow White in once they learn WHO she's related to, much less was trying to kill her. And this was going on BEFORE she even decided to kill Snow White, much less try her hand at the Poisoned Apple after her huntsman let his better nature get to him. So no, if anything, Grimhilde actually had a FAR more extensive rapsheet against her than Frollo did even WITH his attempted genocide. If we must use real tyrant comparisons, if Frollo were Hitler, Grimhilde is more likely to be Joseph Stalin or Mao Zedong. Or, heck, even Vladimir Lenin, who BTW his method of running the USSR indirectly INSPIRED Hitler, right down to concentration camps. Oh, and going by some book adaptations, Snow White wasn't even the FIRST person she tried to have killed for fairest of the land, and if anything, Snow White was the first to outright ESCAPE her wrath, and that's not even counting the implication that she poisoned the king for the throne in expanded materials dating back to the 1980s, so Frollo doesn't even have THAT bit to surpass her.
Look, I get it, Frollo's basically the embodiment of the whole "corrupt official" bit (ignoring that Grimhilde, being a queen and a VERY evil one at that, is HERSELF a corrupt official by definition), but he's still VERY much a piker compared to her. Or to Ursula, whose polyp business was the closest you could get to mass murder and her means of creating them was actually somewhat similar to actual real-world tyrants like Lenin and how they make false promises they immediately break once they gain power. Or for that matter to Maleficent.
And yeah, I have some idea of what RPing is via EmpireDidNothingWrong's reddit subreddit and Deviantart.
And to answer your question about being a serial black widow, the deleted scene was part of an extensive subplot where the Queen tried to force the Prince to marry her, but he naturally refused due to having already met Snow White. So she has him arrested, locked in the dungeon, and then proceeds to use her sorcerous abilities to animate skeletons, all of whom were EXPLICITLY stated by her to be her various former husbands from various kingdoms that she had earlier married specifically to gain their land and then killed once she's succeeded (and even namedropped one: Prince Oswald), and when the Prince had enough courage to STILL refuse her, she handed him off to Nubians to be tortured while she uttered a dirty laugh. Then after becoming the peddler, she paid the prince a visit one last time and tried to have him drowned after gloating that she's going to the Dwarves' cottage to finish off Snow White a'la a James Bond villain, the animals rescue him, and he attempts to find a short path to the cottage. Unfortunately, because the only one to understand the language barrier was his horse, he was forced to go the long route, long enough for the queen to succeed in poisoning Snow White. As a matter of fact, that dungeon encounter Maleficent had with Prince Phillip in Sleeping Beauty was reused from that precise deleted scene. And it got retained in the comic adaptation for the film as well. Yeah, let's just say she DEFINITELY would have schooled Frollo regarding acting on lust, possibly also Scar (ALSO via a deleted scene involving Nala), Gaston, Jafar and Iago (who made a similar plan for the throne via Jasmine right down to becoming a black widower), with only Ursula/Vanessa probably rivaling her due to her raping Eric after brainwashing him.
You have some incredibly bizarre notions here, which I still don't think are fair. Grimhilde's cruelty is a fact. Her desire to kill Snow White for the throne is nonsense. Snow White, before falling into the hands of the dwarves, never imagined her stepmother was capable of such a thing—she's naive, but she's not an idiot. Just as her father isn't an idiot. If we even slightly delve into the story that Walt Disney loved and knew, it becomes perfectly clear that black widowhood sounds like nonsense when applied to it, and it's entirely logical that it wasn't used. Further. After the death of her husband, a medieval German queen couldn't lay claim to the throne. At best, it was a separate widow's castle, where she moved after the funeral (which is entirely logical, considering that the castle is listed in the files as THE QUEEN'S CASTLE, and the throne room only has one throne). Further. There are no living people in her dungeons; they are in disrepair, as is her cabinet of books and potion ingredients (she literally has to pull the books out of a pile of cobwebs). So, the skeleton is most likely very old, and the queen is feared primarily because of her fame. The comparison with Frollo is irrelevant; their crimes in the stated canon are completely disproportionate in their cruelty (one girl, who lived quite peacefully, versus hundreds of gypsies' lives and the massacre unleashed by him own). So please stop relying on a dubious source, a supposedly deleted scene that has no weight or actual confirmation in the real canon, to further denigrate the character.
P.S. Yes, I checked the archives. You didn't mention that most of this is just fiction, as Disney even excluded the material from the development process, and the comic book adaptation is a freely drawn-up version of the artist's work based on leaks, and doesn't match the details of the original film.
No, not Snow White, her FATHER. She poisoned Snow White's FATHER for the throne, AFTER marrying him. This was stated in the 1987 book The Complete Story of Walt Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
And it's not denigrating her character, it's giving the FULL extent of what she's truly like (and BTW, those deleted scenes are made by Walt Disney and even hinted at in his press releases before the film was released, the ones that gave some details about Grimhilde's backstory of how she sold her soul to evil spirits at the Harz Mountains for magic). You want an ACTUAL example of a denigration of a character? Try Maleficent in the live action Maleficent movie where she's blatantly in-name only and had all the good guys except Aurora look awful just to make the Mistress of All Evil look like a good guy despite being a BLATANT psychopath in the original Sleeping Beauty film (one who, BTW, Flora made explicit that her cursing Aurora to up and out DIE wasn't even her WORST crime she ever committed). Besides, technically using your argument to defend Grimhilde, that means Palpatine was a saint purely because most of the atrocities in Star Wars we didn't ACTUALLY see him commit (that's why I don't buy "off-stage villainy doesn't count in showing how a villain is heinous"). And that's not even counting how even canon works from other franchises include stuff not seen in the original source (case in point: Final Fantasy VII Crisis Core revealing Genesis played a HUGE role in Sephiroth's descent into madness at Nibelheim despite Genesis himself not even being ALLUDED to in the original game AT ALL, much less his role in Sephiroth's downfall).
Either way, my point still stands, Frollo by any objective measure was STILL a better man than Grimhilde even WITH genocide (and to be fair to him, even God the Father has committed genocides, and that guy's omnibenevolent).
Even if we accept this fact (and I honestly don't remember the text verbatim, but I think there was the phrase "they say that"), it doesn't put her crimes on par with the Nazis, who exterminated people in droves simply because they belonged to the wrong nationality. And I would be very grateful if you would stop writing such things UNDER MY ART.
I never said her crimes were on par with the Nazis, I if anything indicated her crimes were on par with the COMMUNISTS, specifically to Stalin, Mao, heck, even Lenin. And their rap sheet was arguably even WORSE than the Nazis.
Please don't write such nonsense anymore, I haven't read such nonsense for a long time and I don't want to continue.
Another piece of art that I haven't shown.

Since we're here to chat about canon and discuss the Queen, it's a good opportunity to share some old winter pictures and enlighten you a bit about history.
The headscarf the Queen wears was called a gebinde in Germany (Gebinde - "bandage," binden - "to tie") and had not only a practical but also a symbolic meaning – covering one's hair was considered a sign of virtue and submission, and also demonstrated a woman's subordinate position in a strictly patriarchal society and her status as a "husband's wife."

For the first time in a long time, I bought myself an adoptee… And today at work I made her art.

I found my redesign of Grindelwald from two years ago and decided to show it to you. I don't like the designs from the films at all.
My friend said I should draw my own Hermes.
I've seen a lot of art featuring "Epic: The Musical" characters as "Cookie Run: Kingdom" cookies, so… Hecate Cookie.
I realized I didn't post any separate art of Nora's parents… Kathrina Van Tassel and Rubezahl.
These pics are so old,it took me forever to find them. But he was the fastest source of inspiration, true to his divinity.

If Maleficent dated Hades during her school years, why couldn't the Queen date Hook? He was a charming bastard.
