Three years ago, my older brother was hospitalized for a tumor in his brain, which resulted to be cancer. We’ve always been a small family from humble origins. My parents are from the interior of Peru and when my siblings and I were little we couldn’t even afford a pound cake for our birthdays. When we were told that my brother had to be urgently operated, even putting together all of our savings couldn’t cover the cost, and waiting for the state healthcare would’ve been a death sentence. Surgeons told us the hospital takes a minimum of 6 months to operate anyone.

Desperate, I opened an Airfunding and asked for help at every site I could. Miraculously, we reached the amount we needed for the surgery, which lasted for 8 hours and my brother came out with no sequels. After that, he took radiotherapy for a month and for the next 2 years took chemotherapy. During these years there was no trail of cancer, he felt totally healthy and we genuinely thought he was going to be one of the few privileged that beat the illness.

On July of this year he was at Brazil, studying with the scholarship he won at his university. A control MRI showed 3 little bulges at his brain. Scared, he called our mom and after calming down he made an appointment with the oncologic hospital near him, thanks to the scholarship he had healthcare there too.

At Brazil he was offered radiosurgery to burn those bulges, but they warned him that they won’t longer give him chemotherapy.

Little time after finishing his treatment he started to feel bad. With his throat inflamed and tires he went to the hospital, but was told to wait 40 days to verify with other MRI if the radiosurgery had worked. With help of his classmates and teachers he managed to wait the 40 days, but the control resonance showed the disease was invading his brain. His classmates urgently brought him with us, his family.

Here in Peru his oncologist run other tests and shared the same opinion as the doctor in Brazil. The illness has become aggressive and regular chemotherapy has no longer effect on him. The state healthcare can’t longer give anything to my brother, but the doctor told us about treatment with BEVACIZUMAB.

It’s an extremely expensive medicine, each vial is $963 US dollars, and he’s needing four per month, that’s $3852 each month. It’s an impossible amount for us. My other siblings and I are already working every possible hour and sleeping 5 hours a day. Our mother is in the verge of collapsing. We’ve never felt more hopeless.

This fund raising is the only chance we have to do something for our brother. Please, help us.

The doctors have given him a few months to live without the treatment, please help us to be together more time and to take care of him. I’m begging you. Any help can make the difference, even if you can’t donate, sharing our story will help us.
