Things fall apart, and fade, and when these things happen you just need to pick yourself up and start over.

Have you ever had to get through a day, smiling at people, talking, as if everything were normal and okay, while all the the time you felt like you were carrying a leaden weight of unhappiness inside you?

I am learning to see. I don’t know why it is, but everything enters me more deeply and doesn’t stop where it once used to. I have an interior that I never knew of… What’s the use of telling someone that I am changing? If I’m changing, I am no longer who I was; and if I am something else, it’s obvious that I have no acquaintances. And I can’t possibly write to strangers.

I think everything in life is art. What you do. How you dress. The way you love someone, and how you talk. Your smile and your personality. What you believe in, and all your dreams. The way you drink your tea. How you decorate your home. Or party. Your grocery list. The food you make. How your writing looks. And the way you feel. Life is art.

She had a passionate longing for the garden, the darkness, the pure sky, the stars.

I am overwhelmed with things I ought to have written about and never found the proper words.

But aren’t we all just a little bit destructive? Seeking out lovers we know would not be smooth sailing and straight roads to bliss. Aren’t we all just very much attracted to danger like it chooses to find us around the corner?

For what it’s worth: it’s never too late… to be whoever you want to be. There’s no time limit, stop whenever you want. You can change or stay the same, there are no rules to this thing. We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it. And I hope you see things that startle you. I hope you feel things you never felt before. I hope you meet people with a different point of view. I hope you live a life you’re proud of. If you find that you’re not, I hope you have the courage to start all over again.

Care no more for the opinion of others … Do the hardest thing on earth for you. Act for yourself.

And it occurred to him that there were two parts to being a better person. One part was thinking about other people. The other part was not giving a toss what other people thought.

You don’t spend your life hanging around books without learning a thing or two.

Books became my life, or maybe I should say books became the way I escaped from my life.
