"i do not dream of labour" is one of the worst pseudo-marxist taglines that western leftists have co-opted because when you ask them what they do dream of, they say traveling, studying, and creating art. broski, who's flying the plane to take you to prague? who's the security at the library with the texts you're studying? who are the clerks in the museum showcasing your art? like bro, you do dream of labour. you just dream of someone else doing it so you don't have to! you merely want to outsource the labour and make it invisible.

granted, im not exactly the widest reader of adolin centric fanfic, but i think more fics need to take advantage of. okay so in wor 50 uncut gems (the chapter immediately after adolin's first date with shallan, where he's in the stormshelter and sadeas is also there and sadeas ragebaits adolin and adolin is like ive GOT to kill this guy) adolin has thoughts throughout the chapter that are like "adolin felt uneasy, which everyone always did during a highstorm. they were freaky and even in a stormshelter they were not to be trusted" when like. this is not a thing anyone else thinks or feels. like, yeah, people have a healthy respect for highstorms, and people get nervous about actually being caught outside during one, and then there's specific circumstances like dalinar and his visions where he dreads highstorms because he's gonna be experiencing divine madness or whatever, but nobody seems to have the exact view of adolin, which is "highstorms are scary even in stormshelters". [singsong voice] adolin's afraid of highstormsssss

Whenever they gave us one of those "read through ALL the instructions before you begin!" trick assignments in school where the steps lead you on an increasingly ridiculous goose chase until the final one tells you to just put your name on the paper and turn it in without doing anything else, I was always like, "Okay, but what's the point? Surely the REAL world won't be anything like this." And then I grew up and discovered that not only is the real world often exactly like that, some people won't even read the first line of the instructions even if they make perfect sense. And these people are called "co-workers"
