brvdleymilliganâ:
âYeah, Iâll getâŚâ trailed off, eyes flitting between various shelved bottles, indecisive in more ways than one. âJust a vodka, I guess. Plop a few ice cubes in. Itâs a party. Tits out, toes out. Party rock anthem,â she added, letting out a breath of laughter when the bartender gave her a disgruntled squint â sheâd pelted a beer coaster across the span of the entire bar, a few nights ago, and it had whirled all the way for his Adamâs apple, striking like a ninja star. Upon impact, heâd made such a dramatised gagging sound that it was louder than a strike of lightening, tongue extending so far from his mouth that Bradley was convinced it would fall out and sprout legs. âEt tu, rat? Not an LMFAO fan? Not a fan of everybody having a good time? Sick,â she dismissed, shunting her body sideways like she was fencing him out of the conversation completely. Devoid of protest, he went about fixing their drinks. âHm.â Eyes narrowed to a slight squint, Bradley examined Miliâs face. Anyone would think she was deliberating something, cogs shifting as she stood at a fork in the conversational road. âThey sound like cunts. Youâre Rosaâs sister, right?â Eyebrows perking slightly in inquisition, the rest of her expression remained unreadable. âShe reminds me of an ogre, sometimes. Not in a harsh way. Can just imagine her wearing the waistcoat. The brown one. Does she own one?â
mili barely noticed the bartender, busy laughing at bradleyâs order, and much too used to ignoring men at places like this, until she started addressing him and she had to turn around and look at him, blinking innocently waiting for him to be intimidated into walking away. maybe in a way bradley reminded her of viktor, even tati sometimes, and she felt drawn to that just because it felt like home. snapping back into reality, she found herself being stared at so intensely she put her hand on her cheek, feeling for any stains of something she might have â at least this wasnât after a shift, the stains she got at the club were of the worst kind, but she seemed to be clean. âyeah, rosa,â she said, a grin on her face at the mention of her sister. it mustâve looked funny from a distance, bradley staring while her own expression went through a billion different feelings just because she couldnât help but show anything and everything she was thinking of with her whole face. âi donât think she owns a waistcoat, but i can imagine her wearing one. are you talking about shrek? iâm not sure how thatâs not harsh, though i guess shrek is kind of nice deep within, but rosa is a very clean person, i canât see her in a swamp,â she ranted on, frowning as she talked. âhow do you know rosa? are you friends? do you know viktor? heâs my brother, i actually think youâd really like him.â

âYeah,â he agreed with a simple nod of his head, taking a few steps back hesitantly. âYeah, letâs get out of here. Bad idea all around.â At the mention of bonding, Blake made a face and began to walk in the direction of the boardwalk. âYou know, none of your siblings like me much,â he said. âThey think Iâm⌠I donât know⌠Stuck up, maybe? Iâm not⌠I mean, Iâm not Gina⌠I donât know. Viktorâs mean.â
âwell, you are, right? kind of stuck up?â she said, belatedly realizing he hadnât meant that as a good thing for himself and rushing to explain. âi mean, itâs not a bad thing, youâve got â you know, you come from money, you canât help it,â she clarified, frowning slightly at herself and her own words which didnât seem to have helped the situation much. âviktorâs not mean, heâs a bit blunt, but heâs a good guy. iâm sure deep down they like you â i like you,â she concluded, putting on a grin in case that solved it. âbut, you know, iâm not so sure they like me all that much either, so i donât if it counts for real.â
flrcsâ:
In the late afternoon, the boardwalk was always busy. Buzzing with sellers and tourists and people just trying to get to the beach, Gianni always found himself weaving through sunblock slicked bodies on his way home after his shift. Usually, he did his best to get through as quick as possible, preferring to come back later at night when there were less screaming children and more live music from people setting up along the edge of the beach. His plan was derailed, though, when he spotted Mili, unable to help the bright smile on his lips. She seemed to be looking at the sea glass jewelry the seller had displayed on their table, and Gianni came to a stop beside her. âI think that necklace would look great on you,â he states, feeling the quickening beat of his heart when her eyes met his. âCompliments your eyes,â he shrugs, picking up the necklace by the charm dangling from the black leather cord. It was simple, just a circle of sea glass inside a silver frame and encased with resin to keep it both safe and in place, the color of the glass shifting in different lighting as it moved. âWhat do you think?â @milisamuelsâ
it was impossible to not feel drawn to the beach when it was so lively, so loud and vibrant, she hadnât felt quite as home as she did out there in such a long time that every time she walked out of her dorm she ended up at the boardwalk. sheâd come enough times that the sellers were starting to recognize her, some grinned at her as soon as she approached because she was faithful buyer and some definitely put their most expensive things out of reach, but she couldnât blame them, sheâd had a couple of confusing incidents already. âoh, hi,â she grinned as soon as she heard gianni, eyes widening with surprise. she wasnât one to try and hide emotions, but even if sheâd wanted to be subtle about it she was sure the blush was too telling for her to act like her heart hadnât just skipped a beat. âthank you, thatâs â thank you,â she repeated, his words barely registering as she looked at him and tried to think through the sound of her racing heart. for the sake of her dignity, she glanced at the necklace, touching the charm with the tip of her finger. âi love it, iâd feel like a mermaid with this. itâs perfect.â
ohhcndreaâ:
finger gun caused the corners of her lips to prick up in small smile, a huff of a laugh escaping through her nose. â maybe, maybe youâve got me completely fooled. â andrea mused, a beat passing before she continued, â but i think youâre only in for a win if youâre like, a really big fan of succulents and like hydroflasks. â she said with a light chuckle at her own words. she didnât imagine the people that lived in there had anything hugely valuable, who did on a college campus?  â uh, yeah, â drea said, putting the cigarette out and hopping down so she could throw it in nearby bin. â i was gonna grab a shake from the in and out, thatâs kinda nearby, if you wanna come with? â she offered.
âi do love plants, what can i say,â mili laughed, shrugging lightly as she watched her hop down, excited already before sheâd even offered. sheâd been starving for a while, sort of used to it, the low rumbling in her stomach easy to ignore for the most part, but the colourful houses have given her cravings and she was overjoyed to get to please those. âthat sounds perfect, yes, please. i love shakes, theyâre like, my favorite thing.â
brvdleymilliganâ:
âYeah. Witnessed it with my own eyes. My own hand, actually. Vin Diesel used to have hair, but thatâs all I can say, for legal reasons,â Bradley admitted, so sincere that anyone would think she was serious. âHoovered up someoneâs coke, once, too, âcause I thought it would be funny. It was, in fairness.â She left out the grizzly part, of that. The way her jaw had been clenched inside of a meaty fist, laughter forcibly cut short. Chipped black nail digging deeper at the counterâs groove, Bradley stilled slightly when she felt the spike of a rogue splinter, inevitably carved there by her own making. Rather than flinch away, like most probably would, she tested the pad of her index against the tip, daring it to prick her like a knifeâs point. If you bite, I bite you, back. Some insatiable part of her liked having reasons to get angry â it wasnât that she needed it, but rather that she needed the excuse. After all, Bradley was always angry. Sometimes, it was just nice having something to point at and blame for it, something she didnât carry with her. Something that wasnât her. âDid you get dropped on the head as a baby?â It wasnât a malicious question, although with Bradley, it was often a struggle to tell. Her eyes flit to study Mili, such a cold blue a great white could have swam in them â maybe, if you leaned in and squinted just right, youâd spot one. It was a limited pool, though, given the swell of her pupils. âMaybe you should start writing things down. You know. Brush teeth. Put on pants. Donât wanna forget those, too. Strutting pussy out with ogre breath is probably a bit of a buzz kill.â
it was impossible to know with bradley, and mili had made her accidentally angry once or twice, enough to know she didnât particularly enjoy being on the receiving end of it â she didnât enjoy anyone being mad at her, a people pleaser, her dad had always called her. not in those words, in harsher ones, sheâd been able to tell even if heâd used words she didnât quite understand that her mother wouldnât explain, but the concept was there, and she wasnât too sure what was so wrong with wanting to be liked. âi donât really know, never thought to ask my mom,â she shrugged, glancing at the bar until she managed to wave at the barman, get herself a drink. âdid you want something â feel like you just gave me a nod and never said,â she asked, frowning slightly as she tried to recall. âi used to do that a lot but my siblings would find my notes and make fun of me for it so i kinda stopped â itâs alright though, i remember the basics. hygiene stuff, i never forget, just the little things, especially birthdays... too many of them,â she said, waving a hand in the air. âogre breath might not be so bad though, guys can be into gross stuff, you can never know with them. guess i wouldnât want to get with a guy who was into that, probably?â
viktcrrâ:
thereâd been something oddly cathartic about sitting on a rocking chair on the front porch of a candy-colored house - viktor a stark contrast of dark layers, with his turtleneck and cheap beer and - parasol? - shielding him even further from the sunlight, though the porchâs hanger had done a more-than-sufficient job of doing so. âdonât lie to me, mili,â it was announced across the yard. âiâm very robbable.â viktor leaned forward in his rocking chair, sliding a pair of sunglasses down from atop his head. âa fucking bird stole my house key, or some shit, so now i have to crawl through the window like a fucking ⌠barbarian.â he was still yelling across the lawn. there were crude gestures meant to symbolize how much he hated birds. it was also a lie of a gesture - he respected birds to a degree.
pulling her sunglasses up, mili walked up a bit closer to viktor, hands in her pockets as she eyed their surroundings. âi donât know, feels like itâd be counter-productive to rob you, kinda like robbing myself?â she said thoughtfully, a shrug her only conclusion on the subject. âwhat are those birds called, the ones that will take anything shiny? small, black?â she asked, holding her fingers up to show the size of a bird though it was probably physically impossible for any bird to be that small. âurracas,â she explained, like thatâd help, accent heavy when her mind was elsewhere. âpretty birds. donât you have housemates or something that will lend you a key to make a copy, or something? i could ask, if youâre not on friendly terms.â

âYou could argue itâs always too early in the day for cocaine, Mili,â he offered with a shrug, mouth opening and then closing again as he tried to recall the name. âThe uh⌠the fancy buildings. You know? The apartments? Fancy,â he repeated for no reason. âNice central air and it looked clean.â
âthat seems a bit extreme,â mili shrugged, though she wasnât too keen on the stuff, but it sounded like the cool thing to say. âsure, i know the fancy apartments. remind me of rochester, though they look prettier, everything looks â i donât know, sunnier? warmer,â she offered, taking a drag from the cigarette. âthink it might be weird if we keep standing around outside a place neither of us lives in, donât you? we should go somewhere, iâm in the mood for walking and we can bond.â

Katherine nodded her head in understanding, sort of pleased that the other girl wasnât a neighbor because she wouldnât know that Kat was so reckless, sort of disappointed because she seemed really nice. âOh cool,â she chimed, though she wasnât sure she did know her brother. There were plenty of boys around that were tall, cute and moody, admittedly and Kat was grateful for the first two traits at least, âWhatâs his name?â she asked, maybe they had met or maybe she followed him on Instagram at the very least. âUh yeah, I live around here,â she confirmed, waving a hand in the air in a vague sort of a manner, making no attempt to reveal that they were standing in front of her home. She smiled at the compliment to her house as if it reflected some kind of achievement of her own, âI know, itâs- I love it,â she agreed wholeheartedly, âMy grandparents live in this city in Norway called Trondheim and itâs famous for all these colorful houses by the water- do you know it? Youâd love it,â she spoke confidently as if she knew the girl intimately.Â
âitâs viktor, but trust me â youâd know if youâd met him,â mili said with a smile, oddly proud at how memorable her siblings could be, especially if rubbed the wrong way. âiâm mili, by the way, did i say that already?â she asked, eyes following with attention her hand movements, like she might be trying to say something with her hands that she wasnât saying with her mouth and mili just didnât wanna miss out on anything. âiâve never heard of â honestly, nowhere in norway, but that sounds lovely, is it very cold? i feel like norway must be very cold,â she inquired, hoping she wasnât being nosey but genuinely curious about anything new. âi used to live in venezuela, a little city, but it had the sea and many parks and it was just beautiful, much better than rochester â still better than this, but this isnât so bad in comparison.â
knoxblakeâ:
âYeah, something like that,â he said with a nod, observing the window for a moment. Noticing her gesture, he handed her the pack, shrugging his shoulders. âMaybe it does,â Blake stated. âI mean, it probably gets here entirely differently. Think the shit I got in New York was Thai, who knows where they get it âround here. Could be a good or bad thing.â
âeither way, i feel like it might be a bit early in the day for that sort of thing,2 she shrugged, grabbing a cigarette and glancing away from the house, already bored with the examination. âwhere do you live, then? iâm over at griffin street and itâs... a bit dull, so far. but i think itâs just because people havenât fully settled in, iâm sure weâll have drama to keep us entertained soon enough.â
cricketnovakâ:
The crisp late November air was causing Cricketâs bad knee to ache more than usual. He knew the smart idea would be to stop where he was and order a Lyft to drive him the rest of the way home, but his pride just wouldnât allow it. He was supposed to be in the prime of his life, afterall. It was humiliating that the relatively short walk from Garcia Row to Griffin Street caused him such pain. Heâd just plopped himself down on the curb for a quick rest and a cigarette when he noticed a woman staring, unblinking at a house across the street. âDisappointing,â he rasped, pulling his gaze away from her as she finished her explanation, âI thought you were possessed and I was going to get to have a showdown with a demon.â Cricket flicked his lighter to life, bringing the flame to the cigarette pinched between his teeth. âWell, if you were casing the place, Iâd tell you the students who live in that house have pawned most of their valuables to support their cocaine habit. The big bucks are at the pepto-bismol colored house on the corner. Theyâre Rochester transfers, though, so I doubt they leave their windows open.âÂ
âiâm sorry, iâll try to let myself be possessed next time i see you though, just to make up for this sad moment,â mili said with a laugh, eyes flitting to the cigarette, fingers itching to reach out and steal a drag. âthatâs so depressing to hear, but thanks for the info â i feel like theyâve been let loose here and they feel nothing can harm them âcause the sea is nearby or something, they might leave just enough room to crack it open,â she said like she was seriously considering it, trying to catch a glimpse of the house from where she was standing. âiâm kidding, iâm a rochester kid myself â mili, thatâs me. donât leave my windows open ever, but i donât have any valuables either, which is the smart thing to do. possessions only bring you down. are you from here, or just doing the college thing in a sunny place?â

perched up on a bit of brick fence drea sat with one leg over the other and a cigarette sheâd pocketed from a party a couple nights before between her fingers. she loved to people watch, combined it with the cool evening air she could really just sit their all night. she watched the other as they stared at the student housing, letting out a chuckle as she finally noticed her and spoke. â isnât that something someone who was totally planning a robbery would say? â she questioned teasingly, tapping off the ash with a grin. â i donât know though, â she said, redirecting her attention to the candy coloured houses with thoughtful expression. â maybe itâs just me but i think they look like some kid puked on them after going fucking bananas on some fruity pebbles. â she said, though really, had she been asked for her opinion?
âi mean, it wouldnât be too subtle if i was just announcing it, right? though maybe thatâs what i want you to think,â mili said, making a finger gun gesture with her hand at her like that would help her lame joke. examining the houses a second time, willing to consider her opinion, mili took a second before replying, finally coming to a conclusion. âno, i think itâs just you, i like the colors, though i can kinda see what you mean. fruity pebbles and bananas in one sentence just made me hungry though, do you know if thereâs a place one can eat around here?â
bykatherinebishopâ:
Katherine was on her way home from the nearest wholefoods with a backpack full of overpriced, organic food to fill the fridge she shared with her roommates. As she approached the building she noticed an unfamiliar figure standing outside, seemingly admiring the place, maybe waiting for one of its residents or thinking about moving in. Curious, Kat pulled out her headphones and offered a polite smile, âHey,â Kat greeted, almost interjecting as the other girl started to explain herself. She raised her eyebrows, looking up at the window, it was her window that had been left open, she hadnât even considered the prospect of robbers, âOh, yeah,â she offered with a laugh, pretending it wasnât her own dumb error. âStupid,â she agreed with a nod of her head, hitching her backpack on her shoulder, âDo you live here?â she asked curiously, she was pretty sure she hadnât seen her on the street before but it was possible Kat simply hadnât noticed; it wasnât unusual for her to be consumed by her own thoughts while walking around town.
âoh, no,â mili replied easily, always eager to meet new people, especially now, with the new college, new housing, new everything â it just seemed like the perfect time to make new friends. âi live over at griffin street, but my brother lives around here,â she explained. âyou may have seen them around, tall, pretty face, always kinda looks like he ate a bad shrimp and thinks itâs your fault because you didnât warn them,â she said, feeling like sheâd nailed her description of viktor. âanyway, not in this house, though, i donât know anyone in this house. do you live in this neighborhood? itâs so pretty, i love the colors, canât stop staring at everything.â
