Cartier | Emerald and Diamond Brooch | c. 1928 ・・・ One of the most significant and well-known jewels in Post’s vast collection is an emerald and diamond pendant brooch made by Cartier in 1928. The iconic piece, emblematic of the marriage of historic gems with innovative design, features more than 250 carats of carved Indian emeralds from the Mughal period, including a large emerald carved with a seventeenth-century Mughal motif of a flower, with a Persian inscription on one side. The brooch is a marvel in stone setting. The use of platinum in jewellery was pioneered by Cartier as it allowed stone setting in minimal metal. There is barely any metal visible in the calibre cut stones suspending the smaller fluted hanging emeralds. ・・・ #fashion #diamond #diamonds #emerald #cartier #mughal #glam #marjoriemerriweatherpost #hillwoodmuseum #jewelry #jewels #brooch #history #1920s
