My bloodiest fight ever 😂 It was at my house at midnight while I was trying to prepare for a possible hurricane before flying out to coach at an IBJJF World Master event where my wife was competing for the first time. Before I went all in on martial arts I wanted to be a herpetologist, a scientist that specifically studies reptiles and amphibians. If someone asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up my answer from 2-20 years old was an easy one, a herpetologist. I started going to school for it and then just got hooked-in by my martial arts “hobby” of BJJ and MMA and followed that path instead, but I still love herpetology, and had many pet reptiles and amphibians over the years. Calypso was the largest and smartest pet snake I ever had. She was a beautiful reticulated python over 16’ and not too far below 100lbs, and the only one of my pets I really really hoped I would never blinded with and get bit by. Sure enough I did. In my rush to get ready for the sudden hurricane warning as I was packing to leave on an early flight, I rushed removing her from her enclosure and didn’t properly read her behavior, she mistook my hand for food and latched on… and I mean LATCHED ON! I got to debunk like 10 BS tricks people say will make a python let go if they latch and wrestled for like 10 minutes trying cold water, ice, hot water, etc, until eventually I went to a@last resort of using a stick to pry the jaws off gently, which finally prompted her to release uninjured. Same couldn’t be said for me. I had to go to the hospitol and get wrapped up and make sure there was no tendon damage because I couldn’t move several fingers. Luckily, no serious damage, and my wife won the event, and Calypso never but me again! She is a big time mom now, after we decided to have a baby I sold her to a breeder and they were very happy together last I heard. My boy @_jnasty.og had a great performance tonight at @savage_fight_promotions , and got the fight of the night in his kickboxing debut alongside a game opponent in Seth, but I think the highlight of the night was seeing the legendary Drew Fickett warm up for his comeback fight by playing @dropkickmurphys on the Violin in the back.
