The Mighty Ducks Invitational 2021

So I know that it may have been announced that TMD week would be starting tomorrow, however as you can probably see that isn’t going to happen.

While unfortunately we can’t make the anniversary proper we are going to hold the 2nd annual Mighty Ducks week on October 23-29, 2022.

We are going to follow the basic rules of last year. An updated FAQ and how to post or have your work included will be posted closer to the event.

But take this as the Official Announcement and Prompt list for the Might Ducks Invitational 2022!

TMD WEEK WILL BE OCTOBER 23 - 29, 2022

Day 2 (October 24): MVP - Favorite Duck (Can be Coach or Player)

Day 3 (October 25): There is No I in Team - Favorite Dynamic (Must focus on 2+ different characters)

Guys, I am sorry but my life and work just became overwhelming and also my heart just wasn’t in it and so I am going to say that we aren’t really going to go forward with TMD week tomorrow. And given that interest for this in general has been tepid I didn’t have high hopes that we would match last year in turnout.

If you made/make something over the next week please tag it as #tmdweek and I will reblog it but I won’t be mass promoting the event or do end of day round ups.

I am so sorry for this and if you want to pick up and reschedule you are welcome to and I will change the name just let me know.

Because last year it was such a success, and for the 30th anniversary of the first film we are running it again.

TMDI 2022 will run from Sunday, October 2 - Saturday October 8

However, I wanted to run something by you guys to maybe make it fun and encourage participation.

We are going to the same as last year where each day will be different prompts. If so would you guys like one prompt per day with the final day being a free for all, or would you like a theme per day with sub prompts

However I also want to gage whether there is any interest in doing a prompt fest. Basically people will submit prompts (and would specify whether they are prompting for fic, art or both) and then can claim prompts and pledge to post the work on one of the days during the week. It would be low pressure and you can submit and claim as many prompts you would like.

(Please note this is highly low pressure and you just have to fulfill a prompt the work will not be written/created specifically for you like it would be in an exchange)

Please let me know in the replies or ask whether this is something enough people would be interested in.

So because for a variety of reasons I was not able to contribute as many things as I wanted to for the week, I decided to sort of introduce myself, why I did the week and talk about my time in the fandom a bit, so please indulge me. I am mainly going to talk about my WIP (tho technically the first part is done and complete on AO3) and other things.

I try not to make this too self-aggrandizing, but I wanted to share just some things to part the event with.

Who are you? How long have you been in the fandom? What is your history in the fandom

I am K ( @boasterkeaton ), I have been active in TMD “fandom” for about four years. I saw the films as a child and loved them as a child who was only about a couple of years younger than the kids in the film, but then swiftly forgot about them for twenty five or so years as I grew up and went through different things. My original start in fandom is rooted in animanga fandom, particular for series that became prominent in the late 90s, early 00s with the rise of Toonami.

I returned to the fandom via a random dream I had in August of 2017 in which I dreamed the story that would later become the fic Chasing Dreams. Of course I woke up and thought “Is there fic for that?” and so I looked and of course there was fic for that! And I have been playing around in the fandom ever since!

What do you enjoy most about TMD Fandom?

I think what I enjoy most about TMD fandom is that like most small, old and closed (or semi-closed) fandoms there is literally no pressure. No pressure from waiting to see what some writers are going to do in Hollywood, no pressure to conform to any particular fanon or BNF’s head!canon. I really have enjoyed getting to write and participate in fandom for me. I share my work and I squee in my own way, and if others join me that is great and if they don’t, that is fine too.

Tell us a little about your work?

As my graphic design skills are EXTREMELY limited, and my artistic skills are even less than that, I am mostly a writer. I have about 8 pieces of TMD fic coming into the week, however just a look at my AO3 profile shows that I have written for a few different properties over the years (mostly for Yuletide). However my baby, if you can call it that, is the fic that started as a dream and was initially a singular story called Boy Problems, and has now become the Chasing Love series. 

And here is where I say the fun of a small fandom really works, because I am a slow writer, so I could never sustain a long overarching fic for a more active fandom, me being allowed the time and the patience allowed me to actually sort of hone myself as a writer and really learn how to plot, and plan and just write for a goal. And though it is still nowhere near being done I am super proud of it.

For those of you who haven’t read it, the series is basically a coming-of-age tale of acceptance and self-discovery, all while dealing with the pressures of youth, both internal and external. I don’t necessarily relate to characters on a one-to-one basis but for a fanfic, there is so much of me in both Adam and Charlie that it literally hurts (in a good way) when I read and write it.

However overall, I love good rom-coms mixed with angst, so basically any story I write are going to have elements of that. 

Why did you decide to create and run @mightyducksweek?

Well @gaffney made me do it 😝No, honestly with the uptick in activity caused by Game Changers and because four years in I finally got the courage to actually interact with others, I decided to do this and hope that others would come and join. In the words of the ultimate Dad Movie, Field of Dreams: “If you build it you will come.”

It definitely has been a blast and I love all the stuff that has come in and that people seemed to really enjoy doing work. It has truly been a great ten days and I hope that we can continue to support and hold up this small little fandom even after it is over.

Are you in any other fandoms?

I am not necessarily in other fandoms, per se, but my tumblr is pretty multifandom most of the time. Also once I am in a fandom I never really leave, I just cycle in and out of fixations and it is more a matter that I add new ones as opposed to discarding old ones.

Where can everyone find you after the week is over?

Well my Tumblr is @boasterkeaton​ and I am the same name on AO3, Discord and Twitter (where I am most active). I am pretty free to speak to anyone most of the time!
