THE LORD

The boy sighed in relief. He was glad that he hadn’t just scared off a customer by accident. His father wouldn’t have been happy with him at all…that, and he just felt it’d be better to keep on this ant’s good side. Most ants around were kinda small, but not this one, so that had to mean something. He nodded, smiling a small smile.

“Thank you so much, man, I really am grateful you allowed me to take that back…and I’m glad you forgave me, too.”

He wanted to reassure his customer that the burgers were good, but he couldn’t seem to put the right words together in his mind. If only his entire childhood hadn’t ruined burgers for him…

“Well, uh, I’m glad you chose to try your first burger here, they’re- I mean, burgers aren’t personally my favorite thing, but still, if I wanted a burger, I’d get it here!”

   “No thanks necessary my fine, afro’d friend. We all have bad days, but the things we do in anger do not make up our personality as a whole.”

He smiles down at the kid, arms crossing. Guru wasn’t one to let first impressions ruin things, especially not his first burger. Plus, he worried this kid might be being watched - maybe a security camera or something, waiting for him to mess up to fire him for losing a potential customer. Being the saint that he was, the lord, he couldn’t cost this kid his job!

“Was about to ask you the same thing…”

Eyes lidded and relaxed once more, Guru continued to look over this strange double. He couldn’t say he was exactly frightened - more just confused, and looking for answers as to why and how this could occur.

Crossing both sets of arms, he leaned back, a calm smirk present on his face as usual. The compliment from the other left a soft pink upon his violet cheeks.

“This IS weird, though.”

   It certainly was weird, but... Well, Parappa Town wasn’t exactly free of odd occurrences. Especially with that noodle thing that had happened recently, and the whole ‘growth ray’ thing.

“Stranger things have happened, this is just another new food on the plate we call life. But, y’know. A foreign food, with some strange, spicy dressing.”

For a moment, he looked around. Everything seemed to be misplaced-he couldn’t find any of the pieces of paper he usually wrote orders onto. He quickly pulled a napkin out from under the counter and wrote the ant’s order on it, then turned and handed it to the nearest kitchen worker, not saying a word. He then turned again, putting one of his elbows down on the counter.

“Alrighty, sir, that’ll be coming right up! But, uh, I really am sorry about that first thing I said. I didn’t get much sleep last night, I’m not really thinking straight.”

He then realized that he hadn’t really seen the ant before in the restaurant. Sure, he didn’t have the greatest of memories, and many of the people that went in and out he found a little strange, but there was just something about this ant that he felt he would’ve remembered if he’d seen him before.

“Oh, uh, this is your first time here, too, isn’t it? That- my goodness, I really am sorry, then, this really isn’t the norm for this restaurant, it’s usually much better than this!”

   Guru appreciates the kid’s change of heart, a smile replacing his frown. It wasn’t every day a cashier changed their demeanor that quickly. Or, as far as Guru Ant had experienced. With... with one other cashier.

“Nah, I understand. Everyone makes mistakes, even, unbelievably, me. You were big about it though, and you apologized - so all is forgiven.” He couldn’t stay mad at someone for being grumpy, especially considering what he’d heard about this place. Something about some noodle epidemic? He was glad he’d still been ant sized during that. Besides, he’d already had his own noodle epidemic at Parappa’s place, after he won that stupid contest.
