TRUTH BE TOLD, HE DIDNâT KNOW HOW TO NAVIGATE THIS. It was different now that theyâd been together, that they had whispered I love youâs just as easily as they had an entire decade before. He didnât feel as angry, and as hopeless as heâd once been. There was something there, and while he wanted to know better - he wanted to tell himself that it was all bullshit, that she was just as likely to abandon him again, he couldnât. So, maybe that was why heâd shown up here, sought her out on purpose, because even without words, seeing her was enough.  âMikayla.â He chided at her when she tried to pass off that horrible lie, shaking his head. âYou know you never could lie worth a fuck.â Maybe she just couldnât lie to him, but whatever it was, he would certainly take it.Â
He looked at her knowingly when she attempted to change the subject, a clear indication that the distraction wasnât quite going to work. âLetâs take a walk.â He wasnât going to expose her, or himself for that matter, here. Head nodded toward the door, and he didnât wait for her to agree, he just started walking to it. Once they were outside, he shook his head. âNothing to be sorry about, Iâm just glad you didnât leave again.â Admitted, looking over to her as hands were shoved in his pockets, in part to keep from touching her, as he desperately wanted to do. âBut, how about you start talkingâŚsomethingâs wrong and I know it, even if you are playing betty badass for those dumb ass cops in there.â ACCUSATION WAS LIGHT, BUT STILL THERE, AND MAKE NO MISTAKE, HE WASNâT GOING TO JUST LET THIS GO.
âYou could never lie worth a fuck.â
If anyone knew Mick, it was Caiden. He knew every inch, every expression, everything. And as much as she hated it, it was how they were always so in sync. When he mentioned that they go take a walk, all the woman could do was nod. She had hopped that changing the subject would help, but Cai was stubborn as a mule.Â
As they walked, Mick tried not to show that she was nervous. It was weird that she was hiding this from him when they had just been together so intimately just a few days before. âHey, for your information I am betty badass.â She said with a a slight grin. The air was warm as the sun was starting to set outside. Mick stayed quiet for a few more moment, but she knew that Caiden wouldnât just let it drop. Looking over at him, she tried to be discrete as she looked at him. They had both changed in the years that she had been gone, but he seemed to keep the boyish charm that he always had. Probably was why he was able to get out of trouble. But he was still the same guy that she had fallen in love with as a teenager.Â
âIt was nothing. Just a call about a case from my old boss.â She said shrugging. âHe wanted to keep me updated on it since there was a new development.â It was true in a sense. They had opened up a case to watch him when Mick left town. But the last thing Mick needed was for Cai to get in trouble for her.Â
