Eagan high school has made the decision to cancel their drumline program, reasons including: “especially for percussionists, the program is ‘dangerous and detrimental’ to the development of students who are learning music” and “ ‘the technique differences are terrible, and it takes up too much time, and by that, not allowing students to do other things’”. And we know full well, that these are not valid reasons to completely cancel a perfectly good and thriving drumline.

The cancelation of the program is not because of financial reasons.

Eagan is very close to home . We competed in their class our first year and one of our pit techs is from there and teched there for many years. They typically host one of the first competitions of the season Their program has grown so much in just the past few years and it’s heartbreaking for me to see them go, and I just really hope they can reverse this decision.

It makes my heart sad that so many students could potentially lose the option to march because someone decided to cut the program for the reasons listed above.
