Due to circumstances only somewhat within my control, I'm going to post all nine of my pride month bingo fics today and if anyone blocks me on AO3 over it, I would not blame them in the slighest.
🐉 What an episode 🐉! Spoilers below.
× One thing I forgot to mention last week is that I love the soundtrack - not that I don't always love it, but it feels like the same piece just ebbing in and out, continuously keeping the tension going for the next scene.
× Rhaenyra seeing Jace broke my heart. The entirety of the Dragonstone sequence was so heavy with what it meant for all the characters and I loved it. Obviously also loved Daemon's tale (in High Valyrian at that!) about Dany.
× I do not care for Aegon or Aemond. They're obviously important to the plot so I power through it but holy fuck am I not invested in what happens to those people, especially given that I've read the book and know anyway.
× I'm VERY interested in how Daemon will navigate the Rhaena + Sheepstealer situation once he finds out.
× I was also very, very interested in watching Daemon clear Rhaenyra's path to the Throne Room with his sword. Very interested. Highlight of my day, truly, be it that it was 4:30 AM when I saw it.
× Rhaenyra feeling all sorts of emotions towards the Throne was probably my favourite thing. She knows what she's lost for it, she knows it's hers; you can see it all in her face once she sits down.
× Relatedly, I was not a fan of Alicent and Helaena being marched in when they were; the episode should've ended with her on the Throne, IMO, but I'm glad we got the 'what did you expect?' sort of look from Rhaenyra when Alicent saw her dad's head rolling about.
× Relatedly to that, fuck Otto Hightower. I was almost as satisfied to see him gone as I was with Littlefinger. Almost. Daemon giving Rhaenyra Dark Sister because it'll finish the job more easily was so good.
× Rhaenyra leaving bloody footsteps on her way to the Throne was incredibly hamfisted symbolism, not unlike the dragon wings on Dany in 8x06. Luckily for Condal (and D&D), I love that shit.
× Loved alllll of the book stuff in this one. 'If this be victory, I hope I never see another', 'it was Prince Daemon who gave me this gold cloak'. Good food!! I live for all of the loyalty that Daemon has built in King's Landing but fear it will end up part of a conflict between him and Rhaenyra eventually.
× Again, great character/emotions work from everyone involved this week. I know we'll probably get like half a season, if that, of Team Black relative happiness before it goes downhill, but I'll enjoy it while it lasts.
× Backspacing out of such an episode to see 'Queen's Landing' where 'Episode 2' was when I started was the cherry on top. 🙂↕️

ppl on tumblr will claim theyre fans of a piece of media when theyre actually fans of a story & characters they made up in their mind very loosely based on said media
I relate to the Doctor because I too think guns are always bad unless they are being wielded by River Song in which case I support women's wrongs
Dragon thoughts. HotD s03e01 spoilers ahead.
× I love the new intro, though I'd forgotten how long a proper GoT show intro is. The variation on the theme/concept is nice, too.
× Watching Daemon kill people at 04:15 AM on a Monday morning is a delicious start to my week.
× You could not pay me to care what that Triarchy woman's ordeal was. You simply could not. I am a sea appreciator, however, so I loved watching Corlys guide his ship through the Teeth.
× I was ready to defend the 'the feeble body of a woman' quote to the death because it's obviously a reference to Elisabeth I, but holy shit was it dropped apropos of nothing in that scene. What on Earth.
× The Alicent/Aemond kiss not being Harrenhal fuckery got me, I'll admit. A hard watch for a good cause because Alicent suffers so acutely from the exact same issues that drove her to start her crusade again Rhaenyra in the first place.
× As far as setting up the scene for the season went, we did revisit all battlefields, I think, so we're all up to date on who is where and what they're doing, which is nice.
× Crispin Cole is as useless and obnoxious as ever, so that. So is Alicent's other brother (the messenger receiver, not the one trying to prosecute rapists).
× Sheepstealer is such a good dragon design, both visually and when it comes to the sounds, and I love him even if s/he clearly did fuck up in this episode.
× The dragon part of the sea battle was obviously heartbreaking and I love that this whole franchise is very much committed to the "if characters can't see shit, neither can you" line. Dark ass castle at night while fighting white walkers? Check. Muddy foggy field for a trial? Check. Misty, gloomy seas that just get harder and harder to navigate the more the violence escalates? Check.
× Jace making it in the last possible moment only to get shot by a crossbow was actively evil. Ryan Condal, you will be hearing from me.
× The next episode will definitely destroy me emotionally.
HBO knew that they had to release this still on Father's Day because they know that's dadd— [gunshot]

Halfway through A Clash of Kings and have become so fond of Jon Snow...
Came back from watching the Masters of the Universe premiere a few hours ago and naturally, I have thoughts. Spoilers below.
¬ All in all, I enjoyed it immensely. I didn't feel the 2+ hours go by at all, and it had so much heart! It felt so earnest in what it was trying to do and I loved it for that.
¬ The transformation was so good. I could hear the Enchantrix theme in my head as it happened. 10/10. The styling choices and differences between Adam and He-Man were so well done.
¬ I liked the flashback and segment on Earth because it felt like such a good set-up for the character - the responsibility of the sword (and the planet itself) placed in the hands of a child becoming too much/getting lost almost immediately was great. I also liked that he got to use the draining nonsense learnt from Earth for good in Eternia, lol.
¬ Teela and Adam having the monster pushed off of them by a passing Amazon truck was funny as hell, I can't lie.
¬ the cashier at the toy store going 'Are you single?' after watching Adam make a catastrophic fool of himself was wonderful representation of me personally
¬ King Randor's death made me feel all sorts of ways mainly because of his exchange with Adam beforehand where they're both painfully honest with each other and because Adam was seemingly less devastated about his death and more about the fact that he can't see him at his strongest, which is a delicious kind of fucked as far as parent-child dynamics are concerned. He loves him but he's also aware that he's not what his father wants him to be! And now he'll never get to show him! Much to think about.
¬ I was deeply invested in Duncan's arc. 'Do you remember who I am? Remember who I used to be?' - the entire scene gave me chills.
¬ I know precisely nothing about any of the characters, but I loved how their superhero names were invented by Adam as a child. In Barbie, the general idea was that everyone in Barbieland was a toy and aware of it; here, Adam was given a sort of power over the rest of his world/the narrative that can seem disturbing and the film makes a point of it well enough, I think - he very easily accepts being as powerful as a god and gets reckless with it, but he's chosen specifically because he holds himself back from that slippery slope consciously.
¬ Speaking of which - the entire hallucinations sequence with the Sorceress and the I am the vessel moment was so, so good.
¬ I knew just enough about the franchise to recognise the Dolph Lundgren cameo for what it was and it made me emotional, which I loved.
¬ Can't say I understand the 'Skeletor stole the show' crowd; yes, he was good - specifically that moment where he appears in the sky - but the only part of him that I found truly interesting was the reminder that not everyone can be talked out of evil/understood into being a decent person and there are monsters out there that just gotta die and there's nothing you can do about it.
¬ The soundtrack fucking rocked; specifically The Killer's The Man and Queen's Princes of the Universe were used so well, along with, obviously, the 4 Non Blondes song.
¬ It was such a colourful, vibrant film! Genuinely just a joy to look at. The nature of Eternia was beautiful and a good mix of familiar and otherworldly. The styling in the end in what I'm assuming is animation-accurate outfit was also such a joy to look at.
¬ I love that green talking cat so so much.
¬ In conclusion, as mentioned, this film was a great time. I'm now more invested in any further adventures of Adam, Teela, Duncan & co. than I thought I would be and I'd love to see whatever sequel that post-credits scene is cooking.
P.S. Adam with the white board and the 'HEROES DIALOGUE, VILLAINS MONOLOGUE' in the credits was the cherry on top. <3
