A little bit of my zine-

Posters designed to be placed in movie theatres for my Image & Identity class.

The concept was a way to spread awareness of sexual harassment in The Hollywood Film Industry to the profiled audience. 

I chose to redesign film posters produced by Harvey Weinstein and place them in lightboxes at the cinemas. The posters allow an entire new audience to be aware of the statistics that are kept secret within the Hollywood community. By giving contributing audiences the ability to engage and be aware of the people they are supporting.

Dadaism + Collage

I wanted to play around with the idea of the evolution of capitalism, hence defacing the highest paid model, Kendall Jenner, with a symbolic representation of evolution- the ape. Whilst rewording a very famous slogan ‘Maybe its Maybelline’ used frequently for advertising Maybelline in the beauty and makeup community. 

French futurist Valentine De Saint-Point has been my muse of the last couple of weeks. After choosing to study her manifesto The Manifesto of the Futurist Woman I have delved into her world and am still figuring out her mind. Something that stood out to me was her ideas towards feminism. She criticised feminists yet challenged the misogynistic ideas put forward by Marinetti himself, she encouraged women to be virile, more imaginative, rather than just seeking the same rights.

A few excerpts from some of her manifestos really stood out to me:

“Any exclusively virile individual is just a brute animal, any exclusively feminine individual is only a female,” - The Manifesto of the Futurist Woman, 1912

“For centuries the feminine instinct has been insulted, only her charm and tenderness has been appreciated,” - The Manifesto of the Futurist Woman, 1912

These help demonstrate her thoughts, to me she seems tired of the ideology of the feminine hence her encouraging women to portray the same violence and virility as men, rather than just settling for equal rights.

Ugly Design- Manipulating Our Posters 

In class this morning we were asked to manipulate our original posters as much as we wanted to. I really wanted to play around with gradients, liquefying and warping of shapes. 

Comm Design Poster Experiments-

For our first poster I chose the question What is a Career in Design? This question resonated with me as their are so many different areas and specialist industries within the broad field and there is no textbook career in design- its different for everybody.
