The most magical night ever!!! We made a dinner reservation at Thalami at 8:30, because that’s when the live music started. We thought that it would be a quiet night, enjoying some amazing food and a glass of wine each and that we would call it an early night..
A table of about seven Greek men sat down next to us and although they were quiet at first, we were sure we would starting chatting at some point because their table was directly facing ours. After they had their first course, they started dancing and we were cheering them on. In the meantime, we finished our wine. Then, one of the waiters threw a metal plate at them, which really made it feel like we were in a movie. At this point, we were all giving each other looks like “are you sure this is real?”
I called one of the guys over and said “you have to teach us next!” So that’s exactly what happened. Turns out that part of the dance involves drinking Ouzo so we all tried our best to keep up with both the dancing and the terribly sweet drink! We had so much fun literally dancing in circles and everyone in the restaurant got involved in some way. Many were dancing, and some were slinking in the corner taking videos. At the end of the night the musicians said that this was the best gig they had ever had.
The restaurant was supposed to close at 12 and I’m sure they were sick of us by the time we left at 1:30. When we got back to the apartment we were thinking to ourselves “how is it already 4 am!?”. Then it dawned on us that it was daylight savings... whoops.
The next day we spent the entire day taking a bus, 3 flights home, and then a tram. I would do all the traveling in the world for another night in Santorini!
