This is just my own 2 cents. Not an expert on horse racing, but have worked around them for a couple years now. not my whole life or even childhood, just recently. So please, just remember that as you read my own thoughts on all of this. I thought someothing was off in the race, turned it off thinking Maximum Security (MS) was the winner. Boggled my mind how my intuition ended up being right when I found out this morning he had been disqualified. I dunno, just before the race began, I was like, "None of these horses feel like Triple Crowners first off (I have a stupid belief that it comes down to the horse's name)." Second, "I'm kind of hoping a horse with terrible odds ends up winning, just because it doesn't feel like it's gonna be a good race. Just not going to be the year for a Triple Crowner." Well what do you fucking know. Guess I jinxed it. Don't let me near the betting stands LOL. Anyways, everyone that's mad that MS lost probably are because they lost money. It's fucking gambling, what did you think?! Look at Improbable, had 4-1 odds, was the favorite, but didn't make it. You're making a bet on the whim that everything will go perfect. That, or they don't realize why the call was made as it was. It was because the horses nearly clipped legs; that's dangerous. Had they tripped each other, we would have had a depressing as fuck evening. A "nobody wins" situation if it meant dead horses. That's why the call had to be made, so that future races keep this risk at bay. It was called for the safety of the horses and jockies. If they allowed this kind of behavior to slide once, then it gets abused. And that leads to the concern of welfare for horse and human lives. Do you want to see horses get put down after an accident on the Derby? The horse got spooked? Why wasn't the jockey correcting any sooner? Surely would have noticed and felt it. I don't know, it all just looks like dirty play from my side. It was very crowded this time with the racers; I thought Bodexpress was gonna overtake at points, hilarious considering his 71-1 odds. And to everyone saying Country House didn't deserve the win because of his shit odds and wasn't impeded? Have you not ever run a race? If first placer gets DQ'd, everyone's positions change to reflect that racer's removal. It was like the horse never ran this race. It's basic logic, second place suddenly becomes first, duh. Gambling odds are simply that, a gamble, no guarantee. The impeded horse doesn't get 1st place because of the action; had he kept his stride and gotten second place initially, well guess what, he'd have been 1st place after all (War of Wills was the horse impeded by the way, the pretty black one with the white stripe; I actually wanted him to win cause he was a nice contrast to all the brown horses in the race). Honestly, if it ends up being too controversial, why not re-run the race? Take the top 10, and let them duke it out to see who the real winner is. As far as I'm concerned, Country House is a solid horse; maybe not the fastest, but definitely played it safe and fair. He's the winner, we'll see what happens at the Preakness. Regardless if MS wins the last two, he's no Triple Crowner. Maybe next year, my intuition ain't that good! Besides, Triple Crowners should be special. Not just anyone can or should win it. That's what makes the campaign so fun and intense. It's a journey.
