METROID ROMHACK IMAGE ARCHIVE

I said there was more NES game enhancements on my list. Today I beat Metroid: MOTHER.

I have not played vanilla Metroid since it was a 30 cent download on the Wii U. I always prefer playing with a hack that adds sram saving instead of password inputs, and also adds a minimap. The map doesn't tell you where all the items are like the later games, so it doesn't feel like a huge cheat. Besides, I already beat the game without the map. Metroid MOTHER adds saving and the minimap, and is also a major graphical overhaul. Not only does the game look more in line with later Metroid games, but a lot of the tiles are actually animated as well, making Zebes feel even more alive, though no less weird and alien.

QOL hacks that also mess with graphics usually have a hard time selling themselves to me unless they absolutely nail it and I think this hack pretty much did that. I think my only wish is that Ridley, Kraid, and Samus were based more on their NES era artwork rather than trying to match Super Metroid art. But you know, I think I still like this a lot better than vanilla Metroid. Very much considering making this my new default way to play, though I may still visit the one with vanilla graphics... just not without saving and minimap.
