so much of the time, he gets reduced to merely "hello kitty's boyfriend". they ignore his personality, his hobbies, his family ect ect ect
i think the old "kitty's paradise" series did him best. not the anime that got an english dub, i mean the japanese children's variety program that ran from 1999 to 2011
he even had his own little blocks in it! where he would just hang out and talk to people, or bugs, or objects brought to life, or storybook characters, whichever was the focus of the specific version! that's fun, that's cute, you get to see his personality on display. (i wish i could get my hands on more of the series, but i cant. i only have a few bits and pieces from home media releases…)
older japanese stuff in general did him better imo, like, nowadays he and kitty get portrayed as some sorta perfect couple all the time, when they used to not really be like that. they'd get into petty arguments, they'd end up breaking each other's hearts, but they still loved each other! nobody's relationship is all sunshine and rainbows! of course, that doesn't mean they didn't get lovey-dovey, there were plenty of times where they'd make their friends a bit sick of their affection towards each other.
and he didn't ONLY care about kitty, either! he usually gets along pretty well with badtz-maru and purin, which i think is super cute! (though badtz-maru can also be a bit of an asshole towards him… but that's just his own personality, isn't it?)
He's naive, he gets moved by the smallest things, he's sentimental, and probably sensitive too, he can get a bit awkward at times, he's good at giving affection but when he recieves it he doesn't know how to react, he likes fashion, he wants to be a famous photography or even a celebrity!
and his hobbies… they acknowledge that he likes photography (specifically animal photography), sure, but what about everything else? he likes the piano, like kitty does! he likes hip-hop! he likes dancing! he dots the "i" in his name with a star!
his favorite food is cheesecake, he probably spends god knows how much money on hair gel, he's known kitty and mimmy since they were all infants (they were neighbors!), he's considered to be handsome, he's been to god knows how many countries because of his dad's job, did i even mention he has a family?! even they get ignored! his mom and his younger brother dont even have names or designs! where even are they!
