Family Bond is Important

You are up for a late night snack so you go down to the basement which is poorly lit and the shadows are terrifying. You open the freezer and make yourself a ridiculously perfect ice-cream cone.  But what if there is a woman’s head in the freezer as well?

The Stoker family is mourning because they lost a fine man in an accident. Though, this is not the reason why India and Evelyn do not have a healthy mother and daughter relationship. Only the deceased seemed to understand his daughter and her peculiar needs. India Stoker is living in her own secluded world and she has a special skill: she is able to see and hear things nobody else can. Or maybe there is someone who might feel the same way as she does.

Charlie is the younger brother of the departed and neither India nor her mother has ever seen him before the funeral. He chose the perfect time for his return. When a desperate, unstable widow needed to forget that her husband died and when an introverted girl needed a bizarre push in order to become a woman and finally see her true self for the first time.

Stoker is a psychological thriller, coming-of-age, family drama with horror elements, ambiguity, symbolism and Hitchcock suspense: a unique, mixed genre masterpiece from the acclaimed South Korean director, Chan-wook Park, who is well known for his Vengeance Trilogy (Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, Oldboy and Sympathy for Lady Vengeance). Thanks to Chung-hoon Chung’s cinematography, watching this movie is a pure joy. Breathtaking scenes, gorgeous premier planes, flashbacks, parallel montages and unusual perspectives raise the experience to a whole new level. Mia Wasikowska, Nicole Kidman and Matthew Goodie made these mysterious, disturbing characters come alive. This is not a movie full of actions. As in many other cases the devil is in the details.  

Industrial scenery, oil derricks that never stop moving and a trench full of dead bodies.  Life is tough in Bad City. Days are passing slowly. No rays of sunshine can break through the darkness. There is this strange girl, a stalker, who is roaming the streets at night in a chador. She is a vampire with a stolen skateboard.
