sony doing what theyre doing sucks for many reasons but the response being "we need more physical media" is kind of odd to me, at least in this case. like a cd is just a digital file that you've made portable, it's still the same file that's on your pc/console/etc. and isn't actually any more permanent or secure. so the focus should rly be more on "even if it's digital, the company you've bought it from shouldn't be able to alter or remove it after the fact" no?
like a book compared to an ebook is a case of physical media being useful-- there're fewer physical dangers to an actual book ironically despite the fire and water risks, whereas an ebook can become corrupted, the device can break or the battery can die, etc.
but a cd or a flash drive is the exact same thing as your console, just smaller. in terms of media storage i mean. you can't play the game on the cd without the computer/console the way you can read the physical book without the ereader. it's nice to have backups of course but it's not really any more "physical" than it is when it's on your harddrive
