More development sketches as the design is refined! Decided to move to a more stylized appearance and played with the proportions a bit. Also got more reference to help flesh out her choice of clothes as well as the functionality of her attire.

Went though a lot of minor tweaks towards the end, plus all the different hairstyles that I had to experiment to match her personality.

Done for this month’s @characterdesignreferences character design challenge! Theme was centaurs.
Sketch ended up taking much longer than I expected.
Mei has at least double the amount of line mileage compared to Tracer. Had to go easy on the toning as there is so much subtle detail in her design.
Lots of round, flowing shapes, even the hard non-organic elements have "soft", chamfered edges. Combine that with her endearing personality, makes for a really adorable design.

Process .gif of the Dino Rider! Went for a big colour change towards the end. Had to drop the initial greenish background as it was too detailed and got in the way.

Second racer in the line of characters I’m creating during my free time. Learnt quite a few new things working on this image, and took waaaay longer than I expected. The title reads top to bottom, starting from the right column to the left, using the “tategaki” format that is commonly found in Japanese novels and manga. I'm not terribly familiar with this format, so if I'm doing it wrong, do let me know!
恐竜のライダー pronounced “Kyōryū no raidā”, literally meaning Dinosaur Rider! You can cut and paste 恐竜のライダー into google translate to hear the pronunciation, its kinda cute. = )
Loads of sketches! Hadn’t have the time post due to me falling ill thanks to the silly hazy period in Singapore.
Was super busy with work, plus got knocked out a bit from the haze hence the lack of updates. Anyways was doing a bit of housecleaning on my com when I came a cross this old animation that I wanted to finish for my portfolio in 2010. Sadly it did not get finished (later parts in red are still in animatic form), but on the upside I managed to get hired as a storyboard artist back then.
But that’s another story altogether = )

Taking a break from the usual humans, here's a spider doing some cosplay. =)
Process .gif of “Magical floaty GROUND!”. There were quite a few dropped sketches as you can see, her design was simplified to keep her silhouette stronger and the lighting was changed. Tried to build the light into the character from the start, but in the end it was better to throw everything in as flat values, then light them up.
