I know I should probably go to bed but I have to talk about Fae, I friggin knew something was up with her when she took MC to a massage appointment of all things.
You can glance at MC and figure out she’s touch avoidant; how did Fae not know? How long have they been friends?!
Maybe MC isn’t hard to read maybe nobody’s given a crap enough to try and read her (till Red that is.)
I got so annoyed with her whenever she’d subtly shift the conversation to her, and MC not knowing better allows it! Fae puts herself over a lot of her relationships it seems and just expects people to go with it, I had a friend like that a long time ago and honestly i didn’t realize how much it effected my self esteem.
I’m going mama bear mode on MC rn apologies. And Shyraa because if I heard that happen to that poor baby i probably would have been the one arguing.
You’re doing amazing I rarely get this invested into characters. Wonderful writing my friend, the subtleties in the dialogue are insane, you continue to inspire me. Goodnight - @unknownficenjoyer
Oh my flipping goodness this is just so delectable, I can't even ❤️
(For anyone reading, this is going to have author commentary on Fae up through Chapter 41 of Without Red).
The beauty of 2nd person limited POV is that we really don't know what the world looks like outside of reader's head. Is her touch avoidance obvious? Is she actually much easier to read than she thinks? We only have her POV to go off of, and the fact that you're questioning it is 💯 especially in the context of Fae. How reader sees Fae vs. how Fae actually is are two separate things, and then extrapolating that if reader is wrong about her ability to be read, why is Fae *so bad at it*? *Is* she bad at it? How much of what she does is accidental vs intentional?
But then reader calls her 'best friend'. They're close enough to share a bed. Reader has a generally positive impression of her. It's only been a month and a week in this fic where they've supposedly been friends for 8 years. Are we seeing their entire relationship, or just a snapshot? Fae also appears to be going through a very hard time in her life. Is this how she is all the time? Or is she just closer to her worst self right now? Does it matter?
It seems like there's room for interpretation here, and honestly whichever way you swing it is a valid perspective. You have your real life experiences to go off of. You have your own 1st person limited POV that is just as real as anyone else's. Fae is representative of a real person to you out there somewhere, and there's nothing more 'real' than that. I'm excited (and sorry 🙏) that you feel so much about Fae, and I'm glad I could bring you some inspiring content with nuanced character interactions :) I'll do my best to keep it coming! 🫡😁❤️
