The breeze in Jeju felt differentโlighter, saltier, fruity.
You noticed it the moment you stepped off the plane.
Out onto the balcony of the rental house, your fingers curled around the warm wooden railing. The ocean stretched endlessly in front of you just past the trees and houses, sunlight scattering across the water like glitter and beaming down onto your tanning skin. Somewhere behind you, you heard a soft shuffle and breath.
โAlready ignoring me for the view?โ
You turned, smiling as Sion leaned against the doorway, hair slightly messy from his discarded hat and his oversized shirt slipping off one shoulder to reveal the tight tank top underneath. He looked like he belonged here on the summer island.
โWe just got here. And plus, it's only been a few minutes since I stepped outside.โ you teased. โYou had your chance the whole flight here.โ
He scoffed, walking over and resting his chin on your shoulder, arms wrapping loosely around your waist. โAdmit Iโve been replaced.โ
โYou could never be replaced,โ you said, nudging him gently while leaving a peck on his cheek.
He hummed, satisfied, eyes drifting out to the ocean. โGood answer."
โโโโโโโโโโโ
โโ
โโโโโโโโโโ
By late afternoon, the two of you were wandering through one of Jejuโs local markets hand in hand. The narrow sidewalks filled with bright colors, chatter, and the smell of street food with a hint of sunscreen.
โLook at this,โ he said, stopping at a small stall filled with handmade bracelets. He picked two up, a simple braided one in purple and one in your favorite color.
โShould we get a couple items?โ you said.
โOne more for the collection?โ he said smiling, already reaching for his wallet.
You rolled your eyes, but didnโt stop him as he tied it gently after the purchase.
โYouโre so cheesy,โ you muttered.
You didnโt answer, but your smile gave you away.
โโโโโโโโโโโ

Food came nextโbecause with Sion and shopping, it always did.
You sat at a small outdoor table with bowls of fresh seafood and rice, the ocean breeze still following you as it peaked just a few feet away. Sion had insisted on ordering โa little bit of everything,โ which turned into way too much.
โYou said you were hungry,โ he defended, watching you struggle to finish.
โI was, but not 'feeding a whole village' hungry.โ
He grinned, leaning forward to steal a bite from your bowl anyway. โSharing is caring.โ
You narrowed your eyes at him, but couldnโt help laughing. Moments like this felt so niceโlike time slowed down just enough for you to enjoy every second.
โโโโโโโโโโโ
โโ
โโโโโโโโโโ
By the time you reached the beach, the sun was high and warm, the sand soft and hot beneath your feet. The clear water shimmered invitingly, and without hesitation, Sion grabbed your hand and started pulling you forward.
A wave crashed against your legs as he dragged you into the water, both of you laughing as the cold hit.
โYouโre evil,โ you gasped.
โYou love me,โ he shot back, already moving deeper into the ocean.
"Sion...first, shoes are still on. Second, can we please find an actual place to set our stuff and get ready to go into the water. Please."
With a reluctant sigh and splashing water with his long heavy steps, you guys walked along the sand to settle your stuff.
After choosing a nice spot away from the water and in the shade, you set out your blanket and all your other stuff you had to bring.
Sion was ready to start his adventures in the ocean, but you had to make sure he didn't burn and whine your ear off about it later.
"Just sit! It'll only take longer the more you whine." You say rubbing the sunscreen on your hands.
Sion huffs as he sits down in front of you, back exposed and ready for the cold substance. "Then just hurry so we can go play~"
You rubbed the sunscreen on his back, working it in so he doesn't get burnt.
"That's so cold!" His breath hitched.
You ran your hands over his back musclesโyou still got surprised every time you saw or touched them, now it was no different.
"Can we go now?" He turns around and looks at you with pleading eyes.
You sighed and held the bottle out to him with a cheeky smile.
โโโโโโโโโโโ
โโ
โโโโโโโโโโ
Swimming came naturallyโyou both drifted through the water, sometimes racing, sometimes just floating side by side. At one point, you splashed him, and he retaliated immediately, turning it into a full on battle.
โYou started it!โ he laughed.
โI did not!" You shrieked as he leapt at you.
For a moment, everything felt quiet and peaceful as you lightly swam in the water.
Surfing, however, was a different story. You both wanted to try it out since you've never done it before
โYou said you knew what you were doing,โ you said, watching Sion fall off for what had to be the fourth time in 5 minutes.
โI do,โ he insisted, pushing his wet hair out of his eyes. โThe board just...betrayed me.โ
โThe board betrayed you?โ
You laughed, adjusting your body on your own. โHow are we supposed to do this then?โ
You paddled out, waiting for the right wave. When it came, you pushed forward, standing upโsteady for a second.
Then immediately losing balance and falling straight into the water.
When you surfaced, Sion was laughing so hard he could barely stay on his board.
โWow,โ he said between laughs. โThat wasโฆimpressive.โ
โYou lasted, what, two seconds?โ
โStill better than you!โ
He grinned, paddling closer. โOkay, okay. Come here.โ
You raised an eyebrow but moved closer anyway.
โTry again,โ he said, voice softer now. โIโll help.โ
This time, when the wave came, he stayed near, guiding youโtelling you when to stand, how to balance. His voice cut through the rush of the ocean, steady and calm.
โNowโstand. Slowly. Iโve got you.โ
And for a momentโyou did it.
You were actually surfing.
โSee?โ he called out. โYouโre doing it!โ
You laughed, exhilaratedโuntil you inevitably fell again.
But this time, when you came up, you were both smiling.
โโโโโโโโโโโ
โโ
โโโโโโโโโโ
Later, wrapped in towels and sitting on the sand, the sun beginning to dip lower in the sky, everything felt softer.
Sion nudged your shoulder. โToday was good.โ
โYeah,โ you said, watching the waves roll in. โIt was.โ
He was quiet for a second, then added, โWe should come back here.โ
You glanced at him. โAlready planning another trip?โ
โOf course. I need a rematch in surfing.โ
You smiled, leaning your head lightly against his shoulder. โSure. But next time, Iโm winning.โ
He tilted his head slightly, resting it against yours. โWeโll see about that.โ
The ocean stretched endlessly in front of you, the sky painted in warm colors, and for nowโthere was nowhere else youโd rather be.
