You fucked me up so badly that I forgot how good it felt  just to let myself be happy. It’s like you stripped the flesh from my heart and replaced it with rusty iron and the only things keeping it beating were sticky cogs that never really knew how to run smoothly. For a long time it hurt to let myself feel, to let myself love; it was a foreign experience to open myself up to anyone or anything because I was ashamed at the metal I concealed, and for a long time living felt forced and mechanical. And when it did get better– when the chambers of my heart grew back and my chest was filled with warmth again, I had the audacity to ask myself if I deserved to feel so alive– you fucked me up so badly that I forgot how good it felt just to learn how to be human again and that’s probably one of the scariest things that could ever happen when you let somebody in: they will steal your heart away and only leave metal scraps in its place.

You are the priority in your life. How you love you, how you see you, how you treat you is going to set the stage and issue the invitation that will draw other people in to love you.
