My most diagnosable take is that honestly. As much as people in social justicey spaces talk about exercising your empathy ... there's also value in being able to turn it off so you're not extremely susceptible to emotional manipulation. Sometimes you have to be able to recognize "oh, this is bullshit propaganda trying to tug at my heartstrings" and stop giving a fuck about like. Colonizer feelings or whatever. Vibes can't override your principles

There's a certain strain of ... Everyone Is Valid 🌸 style pseudo leftism that ime invariably caters to whoever throws the biggest tantrum. And this is a Problem interpersonally & it's especially bad if you let these people dictate your opinions. Not everyone is valid some of you are racist

one of my least favourite tumblrisms is the weird fervent belief in the virtuousness of physical violence. like the whole "um, clearly youve never been in a situation where you could get your ass kicked" in reponse to someone like, saying something rude. Like amiguita in a lot of places you can get your ass kicked for saying "i'm gay" or, like, anything with a foreign accent, there is actually no edifying or character-building trait to being in environments suffused with violent machismo! and it always has the implicit undertone of either a like, noble savage view of appalachians or just straight up racist stereotypes

Ok but when you say "restorative justice" do you mean "hegemonic power structures need to provide ways for people who've done bad things to reintegrate into society" or do you mean "you, personally, someone with no hegemonic power whatsoever, need to keep forgiving people who've hurt you forever" because those are like. While obviously World War I wasn't called that until there was a World War II to compare it to, the phrase "the First World War" actually predates WWII, in the sense of being the first war of its kind. So if you went back in time to between WWI and WWII and referred to the former as "World War I", you wouldn't necessarily out yourself as a time traveller, but people would be thinking "what an odd way to phrase that".
