I was watching my preservice teachers working with Kindergarten kids, today - they were playing with 3-d shapes, really focusing in on spheres, cylinders, and cones
A couple of groups were asking their kinder-kids what shapes would look like if they were cut
Like any "good" math teacher, I was immediately transported to the study of Conic Sections
I often tell my students that fractions/ratios to rate to slope to average rate of change to derivative is the longest (time wise) study in mathematics, the longest thread we pluck ... but Conic Sections entered the chat, today
