Yes, I think every sane person thinks so. Why should we, women, be subjected to hatred, contempt or prejudice just because we are women?
The word misogyny comes from the Greek language and is a combination of the words miséō- (‘I hate’) and gynē (‘woman’).
It has been around for millennia, with its roots in ancient myths, philosophy and social structures. In ancient Greece, the myth of Pandora's Box blames a woman for bringing suffering into the world. Aristotle argued that a woman is only an imperfect and deformed version of a man. In ancient Rome, women had no political rights and were subject to the authority of men (father or husband) throughout their lives.
And it has survived until now. It manifests itself through social exclusion, gender discrimination, hostility, androcentrism, patriarchy, male privilege, humiliation of women, deprivation of women's civil rights, violence against women and sexual objectification.
According to Karlheinz Deschner, hatred towards women appeared after the fall of matriarchal societies and he suggests that "it may be the result of a man's bad conscience, his inferiority complex, fear of revenge from women, and probably also the fear of her reproductive function".
And just to be clear, I'm not lumping every man into one category. There are some who are truly wonderful and don't treat women the way I've described. They can treat them with respect, even adoration. This is the complete opposite.
In the case of hostility towards men analogous to misogyny, we speak of misandry.
But back to the point... It was not until the waves of feminism in the 20th century that misogyny began to be explored as a systemic social problem. Misogyny is analyzed from the perspective of psychology, anthropology, philosophy, cultural and religious history, and cultural sexology. There are two types of misogyny – overt (e.g., open attacks, verbal aggression) and covert (subtle, e.g., in the form of “jokes,” a patronizing tone, or the systematic omission of women in decisions).
