love and deepspace boys at your first ultrasound ♡
- little fluffy one-shots because apparently watching them find out they’re going to be dads would be the death of me
xavier had been quiet all morning. not unusually quiet. just softer.
his hand hadn’t left yours since you’d gotten into the car, his thumb lazily brushing over your knuckles while he stared out the window.
every now and then, you’d catch him smiling to himself.
he glanced at you, “nothing.”
his smile grew, “ i was just thinking.”
he looked down at your intertwined hands.
“that there’s really a baby in there.”
“you’ve known that for weeks.”
“knowing and seeing are different.”
and he was right. because the second the ultrasound machine came on and that tiny shape appeared on the screen, xavier went completely still.
the technician smiled, “that’s your baby.”
you turned your head toward him.
“are you talking to the baby?”
“they can’t hear you yet.”
his fingers squeezed yours.
“i still wanted to say hello.”
zayne didn’t look up from the paperwork, “no.”
“you answered very quickly.”
“i’m aware.” he reached over and gently adjusted the blanket around your shoulders. “i’m more concerned about you.”
once the ultrasound began, though, neither of you spoke.
the room was quiet except for the technician’s explanations, “there’s the heartbeat.”
the sound filled the room. zayne froze. his eyes stayed on the screen. for once, the doctor in him disappeared completely.
he was just a man hearing his child’s heartbeat for the first time. his hand found yours.
you looked at him. his eyes were still fixed on the screen.
he finally looked over. there was the smallest smile on his face.
“you’ve done well.. thank you.”
your eyes immediately watered.
he gently wiped beneath your eye.
“i’m not trying to.” a pause. “…but i suppose i can understand why you’re emotional.”
“i’m going to be completely calm.”
you stared at him, “you brought tissues.”
“you also brought three different snacks.”
“and you practiced what you were going to say.”
rafayel gasped. “you went through my notes?”
you laughed, “you left them on the table.”
the moment the ultrasound started, however, every ounce of his confidence disappeared. he leaned forward.
“wait.” his voice went quiet. “that’s…”
rafayel stared. “…our baby?”
he looked at you. then back at the screen. then at you again.
“because it’s a baby, rafayel.”
the heartbeat began. rafayel stopped talking. his eyes widened.
he blinked rapidly. “perfectly.”
then whispered toward the screen,
“hi, little masterpiece. you’re my favorite work yet.”
sylus looked completely composed. he sat beside you with his legs crossed, one hand resting over yours. calm. collected. unbothered.
except for the fact that his thumb had been tracing circles against your hand for the last ten minutes.
he glanced at you, “i’d be heartless not to be worried, sweetie.”
the ultrasound began. he immediately looked at the screen.
“there’s your little one.”
sylus raised an eyebrow. “that little thing?”
he stared for a moment. then looked at you.
something softened in his expression. the heartbeat began. his eyes returned to the screen.
he didn’t speak. just listened.
when it finished, he carefully took the ultrasound picture from the technician.
he slipped it carefully into his wallet.
then leaned over and kissed your forehead.
“the first picture of my child.”
“you’re getting sentimental.”
“don’t tell anyone. i have a reputation to maintain.”
caleb had been excited since the moment you left the house.
“you asked five minutes ago.”
“…i’m excited.” he squeezed your hand, “we’re actually having a baby.”
you couldn’t help but smile, especially because he’d been practically bouncing off the walls since you first took the test, “yes.”
when the ultrasound started, he practically leaned halfway off his chair.
you looked over. his entire face had lit up.
caleb’s eyes immediately went glossy.
“of course i am.” a single tear rolled down his cheek. “how could i not?”
the heartbeat started. he went completely silent. his fingers tightened around yours.
after a few seconds, he whispered,
then kissed your forehead.
“we’re gonna be parents.”
and somehow, he looked happier saying it that way.
valko walked into the ultrasound appointment looking like the proudest man alive.
you were already suspicious.
“why are you smiling like that?”
“i’m going to be a father.”
everything was perfectly normal at first.
the ultrasound started. valko watched the screen.
then the technician paused.
“everything okay?” he asked immediately.
“i just want to get a better look.”
“…there’s more than one.”
you blinked, “excuse me?”
“yes.” she pointed toward the screen. “you’re having quadruplets.”
then, with the most sincere expression imaginable..
“…we’re having a litter!”
you whipped your head toward him, “we’re having a what!?”
the technician was trying not to laugh.
you were already losing it.
valko, completely oblivious, looked back at the screen with immense pride.
“one.” he pointed. “two.” another tiny movement. “three.” then another. “four… uh.. we’re going to need a bigger house.
you were laughing so hard you could barely breathe. “you just called our babies a litter.”
he frowned slightly. “a very cute litter.”
that only made you laugh harder.
but then he looked back at the screen. four tiny babies. four little heartbeats. his expression softened. he reached for your hand.
you squeezed his fingers.
“i think we’re going to be very happy.” a pause. “…and very tired.”
he kissed your forehead, “don’t worry, i’ll do most the work. you just sit and look pretty.”
and then, because he apparently couldn’t help himself, “my little litter.”
