Nightshade knows she shouldn’t have favourite patrol routes. She is supposed to be there for all of Gotham. But there is this one block just a few streets away from Gotham Central that she can’t help feeling drawn to. And it’s not because of the cute little coffee place on the corner of 95th Avenue that does the sweetest Kenyan roast in the city. Which is does. No, it’s more because of the cute little barista with the sweetest smile.

Not that she was stalking out the place. Well, not originally. She had just dropped in one day after a late night patrol for a coffee fix to her her through the morning, and had found a pick me up in that sweet smile that she hadn’t been able to stop thinking about. Call it a crush…call it…well, she doesn’t know what else to call it. That can be the only reason why she is finding excuses to literally swing by, just to see that smile. Out of uniform that would be stalking. But up here, no one can see her. Or at least that was the plan, until she could work out exactly what to do with these feelings. ntil some hoodlum decided to try and hold up the place. Try being as far as he got, Nightshade had already been swooping down before he even made it to the door, tackling him down to the ground somewhat less subtly than she might have done. Still, at least the commotion got the CGPD there quickly, due to having a squad car just around the corner.

Night patrol has been something of preparatory period for her, testing and honing her skills with the same caveat as when Cass started out her career as Batgirl. No costumed criminals.

Nightshade has been getting into the swing of this whole Vigilante thing but still can’t help feeling a little bit of an outsider amidst this group of Batgirls, this tight knit team that she doesn’t quite fit in yet. Which isn’t entirely her fault, given the patrols and cases she has been working solo.

All of that changes when she, Cass and Steph are assigned to a stakeout on a known associate of The Cavalier. Or his last known whereabouts anyway. The intel is over a month old but it’s the best lead they have to go on. And something of a dead end. Still, it did at least give them the time to get to know each other a little. As it turns out Steph had as many questions about her new teammate as she did about them, her curiosity getting the better of her while Cass kept watch.
