I donāt know when I became this tired.
Not the kind of tiredāØthat disappears beneath warm blanketsāØor after eight hours of sleep,āØbut the kind that settles into your bones,āØthe kind that makes waking upāØfeel like another thingāØyou have to survive.
Some days,āØI look at my lifeāØand all I can seeāØare the places where I think I failed.
I failed at familyāØat building the kind of loveāØthat feels like home,āØthe kind where you can fall apartāØand know someone will still be thereāØwhen all the pieces hit the floor.
I failed at becomingāØwho I thought I would be.
There are degrees I never earned,āØdreams I never finished,āØdoors I never walked through,āØand sometimes I wonderāØwho I would have beenāØif I had just madeāØone different choice.
At least,āØthatās what the voice inside me saysāØwhen the nights are too quietāØand I have no one to argue with it.
It tells meāØI wasnāt enough to make love stay.
Wasnāt patient enough.āØWasnāt beautiful enough.āØWasnāt worthy enough.
And money has a wayāØof turning every mistakeāØinto a number,āØevery struggle into another reminderāØthat I am not whereāØI thought I would be by now.
The aching questionāØof whether anyone truly loves meāØor if I have simply become goodāØat pretending I donāt need them to.
And then there are the two little livesāØI never got the chance to know.
Two dreamsāØI carried inside of me.
Two futuresāØI imagined.
Two pieces of my heartāØthat left this worldāØbefore I ever got to hold themāØthe way I wanted to.
People expect grief to have an ending.
It just changed clothesāØand found new places to hide.
Sometimes it hides in my body.
In the weight I gainedāØwhile trying to survive myself.
In the mirrorāØI avoid looking into too longāØbecause I barely recognizeāØthe woman staring back.
I want to tell herāØIām sorry.
Sorry I couldnāt protect herāØfrom everything.
Sorry I spent so many yearsāØhating herāØfor the ways she copedāØwith being in pain.
Sometimes my mind goes somewhere dark.
So darkāØthat for one frightening momentāØI wonder what it would feel likeāØto simply not be here.
I thinkāØI just want the hurting to stop.
I want the noise in my headāØto finally be quiet.
I want one dayāØwhere I donāt have to carryāØevery mistake I have ever madeāØlike evidence against myself.
Because I am so tiredāØof being my own prosecutor.
So tired of putting my life on trialāØand finding myself guiltyāØevery single time.
God,āØif I could start over.
I would take everything I know nowāØand place it gentlyāØinto the handsāØof the girl I used to be.
I would tell herāØwho not to trust.
When to stop shrinking herselfāØjust to make other people comfortable.
I would tell herāØto save her money.
Hold certain people closer.
Let certain people go sooner.
I would tell herāØthat loneliness beside the wrong personāØhurts worseāØthan loneliness by yourself.
I would tell herāØnot to waste so much timeāØbegging people to love herāØwhen she should have been learningāØhow to love herself.
And maybe thatāØis the cruelest part of all.
I have all this wisdom nowāØand nowhere to send itāØbut forward.
Still wonderingāØwhat my life could have been.
Still mourning people,āØdreams,āØchildren,āØlove,āØand versions of myselfāØthat no longer exist.
I donāt know what comes next.
I donāt know how to fixāØeverything that feels broken.
I donāt even knowāØwhy some morningsāØthe sadness feels heavierāØthan it did the night before.
beneath every failureāØI have named myself,
beneath the lonelinessāØand the regretāØand the unbearable weightāØof wishing I could begin again
there is still a small part of meāØthat has not disappeared.
