Kitty Wizard Series - Wounded Wolk

Number 4 of the Kitty Wizard Series. Indi and the Wisp have stumbled across an injured Wolk, a wolf, peacock hybrid found in between the bamboo grove and snowy mountains pass. Will they help this wounded animal and bring him along their journey as they travel to find the second piece of their quest.

In this image, we see the landscape opening up and the journey from silver oak forest to bamboo grove and now in the distance are the snowy mountains, where the second piece of the quest lies. This colour composition allowed me to work more with greens and blues while Indi’s pink keeps her standing out as the main feature of the whole series.

Kitty Wizard Series - The White Empress and The Staff of the Silver Oak Forest

Number 3 of the Kitty Wizard Series and Indi the Kitty Wizard, with the help of the Wisp, have come across the temple of the Silver Oak Forest where the White Empress is waiting to gift our wizard her first key in their journey. The Staff of Silver Oak Forest was crafted by a Wizard many centuries ago, but after he passed, it was found by the White Empress in the Temple of Quartz. We also see our wizard in the new outfit that she had picked out earlier from Kan's Wizarding store!!

Kitty Wizard Series - Greetings

Started my first of my Kitty Wizard series! Over the next couple of weeks, I will be uploading the adventures of Indi the Kitty Wizard and her quest to becoming a better Wizard. Perhaps she will meet more companions like our friend the Wisp, seen here. She Will travel far to make her dreams come true!!

Research task 3

Oppa Rudy is a WPAP Vector Portrait artist who has been experimenting with his digital works for almost 4 years now. His works are what inspired me to take on portraits for the first time, while keeping with my cartoon/animated theme. Rudy uses images of celebrities and everyday people and turns them into geometric works of art, working with shading and layering techniques to get the desired effect. By finding a step-by-step process on how to create these types of images, I decided to take characters from the nickelodeon TV series The Legend of Korra.

Once finished each image, I was able to play around with colour swatches and layouts that could completely change the images aesthetic. While I chose one colour palette for ‘Pabu’, the other two images I had more freedom in playing with pastels and then with bolder colours. This allowed me to convey the image more thoroughly as the expression of each character is different; therefore I created a colour palette to match.

Research Task 2

J.R. Schmidt a digital motion designer that works in a polygon style. When approached by Inspiredology to make a poster for their Facebook contest, Schmidt based it on things that inspire him. This got me thinking of how I can use an idea that inspires me combined with the TV shows I love.

The 3 images I created based on Schmidt’s ideas had the common theme of geometrics; placing the worlds of a particular TV series into one shape then placed against a recognisable background for anyone who watches these shows also. Each shape within the image also represents the theme of each series in the way the individual images form to a whole. Similar to how Schmidt has placed the focus solely on the foreground image, I wanted to keep each background image on theme and recognisable but focus on the shape so that the viewers eye line is drawn in to individual shapes then the whole as a greater effect.

Although my images aren’t exactly based on what Schmidt does, I found a way to convey how he approaches his own work, by taking an individual show and placing a popular scene within the shape almost as if a gateway or portal into the series for those who are new to it.

Research Task 1

Alberto Seveso is a graphic designer who works with real images and distorts them with a photo-shopped effect. By using a cut-out effect, his images seem to be dissipating for floating apart, showing the true state underneath. At the start of my process, I used Seveso’s images as inspiration for simple collage images and adjustments to the backgrounds. Instead of taking pieces out of my images, I placed things in. As I was only starting out, I realised I couldn’t do something as complicated as this to start to I found my take on his ideas and applied them to my own work.

`Asami’s Rainbow’

For our last week in digital drawing, we were allowed to continue with our own concepts, so I decided to explore this type in portrait imagery were shapes are mover over an image of a face and then coloured, either to that of the original image or of any colour. I chose the keep with my animated concept and used various colours, learning how to shade and highlight with the right colour palette. 

My inspiration was that of Wedha Abdul Rasyid who recreated an image of his granddaughter in this style of WPAP Vector Portrait. His step by step instructions were incredibly useful and helped me to create 2 other images like this one.

‘Geo Dreams’ 

For week 3, we were asked what our final images would sound like. Luckily, the character at the bottom of the image is from the cartoon tv series ‘Bee and Puppycat’ by Cartoon Hangover. The soundtrack for the series is very suited to the shows overall aesthetic, combing space and technology while playing on emotions. 

The process for this image was creating a detailed geometric shape in illustrator then taking parts of 3 different ‘planets’ that this character visits and combine them into one geometric piece in photoshop.

For Week 2, I decided to take on the idea of abstract collage in really put it in place by taking one focal point, putting it against a juxtaposed background and that duplicating part of the focal image multiple time to have them make up the background.
