Nolite te bastardes carborundorum

Worked as per usual, got a good bit done on the new animation. The computer tends to be incredibly slow, filling in a single area in Toon Boom can make the Rainbow Wheel of Death appear for a solid five minutes.

I met with Laura in Moylish today to have a chat about the project, howit is going for both of us, and what exactly she wanted changed in the last animation, since I wasn’t 100% clear on that. I am now and started over.

Laura gave me a few instructions as to what she wanted changed. It essentiallymeans I have to scrap everything and start over. Nothing much was accomplished.

I finished the animation started on Friday.

After the technical issues were resolved, I did a quick third version of the last animation I did, and then completed another one that day, which, for the biggest part, consisted of drawing the main buildings/entrances of all five of the LIT campuses.

As I was having massive technical issues today that nobody was able to help me with, I could not actually do any work.

I finished the first animation today, which mostly consisted in designing and drawing 12 distinct characters. I did it in two slightly different versions and sent it on to Laura. She liked it but is undecided as to which version she likes better. Shane also liked it.

Today I started with the animations. I mostly did character designs. I also finished another task on Photoshop that Laura had given me that mostly consisted of cutting out and retouching.

Today I met with Laura and we talked about the storyboard. There are only a few things she didn’t like or that didn’t work in her opinion and a few ideas that we scrapped completely. I took notes while we talked so I wouldn’t forget any of the changes. Afterward, I gave Laura a crash course in some of Photoshop’s basic functions and let her try out the drawing tablet. After she was gone, I redid the storyboard panels according to what we talked about. Laura greenlit everything.

Laura couldn’t come after all, so work on the animation came to a halt. Instead, I worked on a different project that required video editing.

Really all I did today was finish the storyboard. I stayed in contact with Laura throughout the day and we have a meeting scheduled for tomorrow.

I visited the office proper and met all the people who work in marketing other than Laura, of which there are three, including the head of the department. They are all very pleasant and we had a nice chat with Shane (the boss). Laura also gave me more work in form of a photograph that needed work in Photoshop, which I did when I came back to George’s Quay. Other than that, I kept working on my storyboard. I promised Laura, who is new to Photoshop, to show her a few things when she comes over on Wednesday.

Monday: I met with Laura, for whom I will be working. We discussed the presentation I am to animate and which slides are the most important, and determined what exactly I was expected to do. I commenced to make some test animations to find a style she liked. Tuesday: The day was mostly spent with brainstorming, coming up with different ideas for the slides, and also thinking about visuals that might be interesting. I made another test animation. As Laura and I came up with a metaphor in which the groups of courses in LIT are trees from which the individual courses branch out, I came up with the idea of using the LIT logo as a seed, which is what I made the test animation for. Wednesday: Wednesday was also spent with brainstorming, mostly. As of yet, nothing is set in stone and I will probably have to make more test animations so the people in marketing can see the effects different styles and techniques have. I also researched different ways to make a presentation in Power Point and how to insert videos and GIFs in elegant ways. Thursday: Again, mostly brainstorming, thinking about styles, visuals, and layouts. Laura and I stayed in contact throughout and I sent her all the notes I took and ideas I had. Friday: Laura came over and we discussed my ideas, so that I could know she didn’t hate any of them and also I hadn’t phrased them in a way that was incomprehensible to others. So far, she quite liked my work. She suggested a few things about the layout in general and the layouts of certain slides in particular. After she left, I started storyboarding.
