My Leadership Credo - Week 5
âThe challenge of leadership is to be strong but not rude; be kind, but not weak; be bold, but not a bully; be humble, but not timid; be proud, but not arrogant; have humor, but without folly.â âJim Rohn
I have been working in groups for a long time. First in high school and now in college. When I was in high school, we had a project for our English class, where we have to create a video presentation based on King Lear, a play by Shakespeare. My groupmates and I never did anything like that before. We were very nervous and confused about how we will record the presentation and who will edit it. First thing first, we need a script. I sat with my group mates, and we wrote the script and dialogues. The next part was to practice; we used to practice in school during our free time. We need a camera to record. I borrowed a camera from my brother and a tripod to record ourselves. But we had a hard time recording. Then I asked one of my friends from my other class, and he agreed to record. We all decided to record it at my home. I was the one providing everything for this project. So, I became the group leader. So, we all came together and recorded our presentation. Everything was done, but there was a problem. We did not know how to edit.
One day I was talking to one of my friends and told her about my project. And I said to her that we need an editor. Luckily, she knew someone, and that guy helped us in editing. On the day of the presentation, the teacher played the video in the class. It was one of the best presentations, and we received lots of appreciation. And guess what, we got the highest marks in the class.
Overall, it was a very great experience, as I learned so many things. But the most important thing I learned was how to work in a group and organize everything. I was very responsible and was very involved in this whole project. I learned a few things from this experience:
Being courageous, patient, helpful
Communication
Being involved
Listening to others
Opening your mind for ideas/experiences
If I ever get another opportunity to perform as a leader, I will consider these strengths as they helped me to achieve my goals successfully.
