Day 30: Now my computer couldn't handle the Fusion tools :-D. I originally wanted to make part drawings for the full foundry, but it's too much processing power to get past the initial base. The drawing features are interesting and seem pretty good! Will for sure use them on the next project. The challenge is over... it was fun to have this goal. I did gain a good base level comfort with fusion. It works well for my prototyping and layout needs. Excited to get physical! Day 29: Mini metal foundry finished! There are still a few extra details that aren't shown, but the overall is enough for right now. I want to make a small dive into design drawings next. It probably won't be near as interesting to show, but we'll see what we can do. Overall I'm really impressed that my computer handles Fusion 360 pretty well! This machine is pushing 6-7 years old at this point. This whole challenge was sparked because we're looking at replacing it soon-ish. Fusion being free for hobbyists and startups is a great substitute for what I'd need in modeling. There are some amazing features in SolidWorks that I'll miss, but don't really need today. I can say, I'm chill with transitioning at this point. Also, totally ready to get physical again!!! XD (at Hartford, Connecticut) https://www.instagram.com/p/B3BChuEnVUx/?igshid=g290em0cf6ws
Day 28: Spent some time we great people today drinking the right amount of beer. Ended up "falling asleep" before uploading on the right day. Rest assured, I fit Fusion 360 in to the busy schedule! Today I wanted to apply the right texture and appearance to the various parts of the model from yesterday. I like things to look nice, at least. The galvanized parts are that way due to some modifications needed after purchase, I realized. Most everything else is either steel or brass. I am curious about the corrosion protection on the modified galv.steel items though. It involves filing, drilling, and tapping that fitting. It's also not on the business end of the torch, so getting some sealant or paint there could solve that. Details... Day 27: Got carried away on time today. Need to start setting an alarm again lol. Modeling is a fun hobby for me, so I lose track of time pretty easy. This program actually has pretty good accounting. At the end of the day, it's a good tracker for various parts and tools. For this project, it would be extremely useful with all the parts involved. Day 26: Keeping with the escalation factor, I'm driving into a more involved system. Today we focused on the mechanical parts and making sure they fit properly. For that, I'm using an existing parts list, sourcing the models from McMaster Car (built in feature of Fusion 360), making the parts that aren't available, and fitting them together. Still trying to get the hang of the joint process in #Fusion360 . It's just different than I'm used to. The animations help and I'm trying to learn the ins and outs as I go. (at Hartford, Connecticut) https://www.instagram.com/p/B25a9nknW1G/?igshid=ptk2lroj81um
Day 25: Long day, but back to modeling! I feel a lot more confident in Fusion360. Interested in starting some drawings for these files for Shop reference. Today was about some details! A few penetrations at interesting angles. The handle a couple different ways. A couple details for the bucket. Overall good session. (at Hartford, Connecticut) https://www.instagram.com/p/B224Ng_nGa0/?igshid=bb7bzv7y1jm6
Day 23: Using the can from yesterday, I put a bunch of stuff inside. The mini metal foundry is a really simple project that I want to complete.... as soon as I have a house. The purpose of it is to melt lower temp metals for casting. Mainly cans for aluminum. The insulation filling various corners of the model was the hardest part. Fusion 360, at this point, does not have an "up to next" feature yet. It's also a bit hard to see through some parts while sketching. Specifically, the insulation couldn't be set to transparent, which made it harder to reference off of. All-in-all, I think we're getting somewhere. There are a few more parts to this model that I'll work on next time. (at Hartford, Connecticut) https://www.instagram.com/p/B2xtBFjH7O3/?igshid=9a9k1114v740
Day 22: Nothing extremely special today. It was a simple model with a bit more attention to unnoticeable details. The steps involved simple revolves of detailed sketches. Great Sunday! (at Hartford, Connecticut) https://www.instagram.com/p/B2u_r_RHJYu/?igshid=nh1gyrbixp1j

Day 21: Started pretty late but still physically in the right day! W = W. Took another shot at the bottle opened fro day 11. This one went a lot better! Actually finished for starters. This was the 1st time I used surfaces to make something in CAD, so it was a bit clunky and trial/error. Ended with a nice result and in time! (at Hartford, Connecticut) https://www.instagram.com/p/B2svba8Hwuz/?igshid=1iz35ugvxuphk
Day 20: Rounding out the Tech Medallions from yesterdays post with the mold setup for them. I forgot exactly how the design was when we poured back in college. If someone is at Tech, go to the machine shop and take a reference pic for me ;-). I did find some of my notes and downloads from the course to setup my own mold pattern. When I try this setup in the future, I will likely have to think about this a lot harder than just winging it, but for the purposes today, this is great! Tomorrow might get more interesting. We shall see! (at Hartford, Connecticut) https://www.instagram.com/p/B2p60jSHHJt/?igshid=xnwlyru86anl
Day 19: I remember being a sophomore and somehow ending up in the school foundry. They needed more bodies to help with a display for Engineering & Science Day at LaTech. Being interested, I said yes and went along with it. We ended up making these really cool medallions of the tech symbol. Jr year, this is part of the materials class. After doing it once as a sophomore, Jr year didn't seem that crazy. Didnt get to didn't get to making a mold on this one. It's a bit more involved than using the combine feature and I didn't want to rush the process today. . . . . . #Fusion360 #30DayChallenge #CADchallenge #MEENopDesign #MechanicalEngineer #mechanical #engineering #optimize #design #stem #steam #meen #meche #op (at Hartford, Connecticut) https://www.instagram.com/p/B2naaFaHEpQ/?igshid=3mwdcous5rxm
Day 18: I knew he would sneak in eventually. Seemed like the tight timing. The goal for this one was slightly more intricate mold with a slight taper for release. #deadpool is just about my favorite character in fiction. We have.... enough in common. Like acceptance of who you are, no matter what. . . . . . #Fusion360 #30DayChallenge #CADchallenge #MEENopDesign #MechanicalEngineer #mechanical #engineering #optimize #design #stem #steam #meen #meche #op (at Hartford, Connecticut) https://www.instagram.com/p/B2kuGkmH7QN/?igshid=11a0udqf7cmsa
Day 17: This is me testing out various features to quickly make a model. It's a go to bed at a somewhat reasonable time kinda night, so I knew this wouldn't give much trouble. I was wrong. It took some special feature combinations to get rmthe final result. Shelling was new for Fusion 360 (to me) and the use of spheres was a bit interesting to play with to add some details. If I were to do this one again, it would take a fraction of the time, because now I know what's possible! That's half the point of the challenge, so I'll take it as a win. Tomorrow, still going to stick with molds, just more interesting ones! . . . . . #Fusion360 #30DayChallenge #CADchallenge #MEENopDesign #MechanicalEngineer #mechanical #engineering #optimize #design #stem #steam #meen #meche #op (at Hartford, Connecticut) https://www.instagram.com/p/B2iMDCWn-8S/?igshid=190wtl5gsjelv

Day 16: Looking at drafting plans for some molds in the future. It's not the absolute next project, but it would make amazing fun for a weekend. Ever since watching @evanandkatelyn make coasters for their business, I've wanted to try just about the same thing! Seems like an amazing way to expand my skill set into another area, experiment a little, and make a product that's scalable. The coaster would be made with concrete and the mold of silicone. With my current setup, I would need to make a hand carved positive to create the mold. It's really something I could start doing this weekend (pending other things popping up, as they always do. We picked up some freshly chopped wood this weekend from the Bid E, so I may see if I can repurpose that into something! It's getting exciting! Tomorrow will be another mold, but I'll try making it more intensive than this one ;-). . . . . . #Fusion360 #30DayChallenge #CADchallenge #MEENopDesign #MechanicalEngineer #mechanical #engineering #optimize #design #stem #steam #meen #meche #op (at Hartford, Connecticut) https://www.instagram.com/p/B2fwfmOn86m/?igshid=1sm25iu5tafzh
Day 15: Missed one day for my amazing wife birthday. I'm better for it! Completed the cube model. Added some finishing to make it presentable, and put together a little exploded view (since most of the detail is inside). Super happy with it! I was able to get into a good flow completing the parts of the cube. For some reason, I wasn't able to get the same flow a couple nights ago when I got started. Other recent events have been taking up a lot of capacity, so I'm fine with a few misses. Need to pick another project on the build list for the next few models. I have been wanted to do a mold project for quite a while, so this may be a good time to learn that scope of Fusion. Either way, here she is. Another day, another model. . . . . . #Fusion360 #30DayChallenge #CADchallenge #MEENopDesign #MechanicalEngineer #mechanical #engineering #optimize #design #stem #steam #meen #meche #op https://www.instagram.com/p/B2dD5xZn4QJ/?igshid=1gxhq0arfvesn
