COOL. Sweet. Looks like tumblr finally decided I'm not a bot and I can reboot my presence in this place. This pinned post is a work-in-progress for now

This blog is mostly going to contain personal work and process rambling (gotta love the NDA lyfe) but as for what I do: I'm a concept designer who hops between the industries of industrial and entertainment design. For fun I make MORE ART and dabble in other creative realms.

Photoset of some of the minion kits related to Herald of Death: the "Timekeeper" ! Process rambling under the cut, for those interested:

Parts-assembly-wise this one went together very smoothly compared to the War minion (which was the first kit, so I encountered all my problems on that one hah) but the real challenge on this one was the god-dang clear resin parts! Which is why this kit was a limited edition one (unless perhaps I farm out the red resin bits, they took way too much time to clean up and finish - tons of sanding, and clear-coating at the end) The issue: transparent resin, especially in this shape, can create lensing effects that distort the curing light coming through, and can cause for some heavy banding and pretty big tolerance issues... The other issue is that the hollowed shape acted like suction cups, which made the hourglass-halves unprintable until I added adequate venting (you need a hole at the base and somewhere at the top, the latter had to be placed carefully so it would be obscured by the rest of the sculpture upon assembly.) Just some things to think about, if anyone reading this is attempting anything similar! A little tip if you are trying to print hollow transparent resin: it WILL become frosty, thanks to the layer lines once you clean off the uncured resin, and it's very difficult to clean up the inside unless you have some two-part system. Initially I had the little skull set inside, but decided to smear it against the side of the glass in sort of a reverse effect as those cut-gemstone sculptures, which made the "skull with its soul getting sucked out" effect readable again. Clear resin was an even bigger mess than this red - the pigmentation probably helped scatter a little less light, but it is tricky to work with. I will need to run some tests sometime if more solid objects have less issue, as I want a transparent sculpted base for another project in the works! A bit funny to me that the main sculpt assembly went together without a hitch first shot off the printer, buuuuut I spent a few weeks problem-solving the clear-resin part! You never know what will bite ya

Herald of War's little minion kit! These are re-animated war engines made out of the crushed remains of their former crews, organic matter mulched and reformed to create the musculature woven through their remade mechanical bodies, pairing deadly firepower and the ability to move about under the command of their demon herald overlord... This one had two versions: A standalone "hellhound" and one with a pose, on a battlefield-debris base.

The last Herald in the Caminus collab with @mechmonster-art . Source inspo re: the Four Horsemen is a bit nebulous, in the end it was decided to do a spin on the theme of 'Conquest'.

This Herald is a corrupted statue of flesh and metal, the closest to 'angelic' or 'heaven-aligned' in appearance at a distance.

The daemon's character is being a Control Freak in contrast with the wild chaos of the War Herald. Chosen creatures of Conquest are embedded with the spores and "mycelia" the Herald hosts inside its body, enthralling them.

This one was a tough one to resolve, I'm still split on some design choices revisiting this guy. I'm in the midst of some more development for ✨future✨ paintings.

The Swarm Queen

Some behind the curtain sneak peeks! For the 'Herald of Famine' painting, I blocked out shapes and lighting in Blender to make a base to be painted over. This model is quite rough but can be finessed into its more final design.

The buggy corner of the Caminus Infernalis/Four Horsemen collab with @mechmonster-art. The Herald of Famine was imagined as a 'Queen of the Swarm' type character, surrounded by clouds of locust-like biomechs that chew up everything in their path.

For the theme, I imagined a prominent maw with teeth of industrial machinery, and some hollowed out anatomy and hive elements to hint to her never-satisfied hunger.

The daemon "Herald of Death" - this one was an interesting one to approach, since there have been so many iterations of the concept of "Death" (and a lot of similar depictions with the scythe and everything) and I didn't want to do anything too conceptually similar, but still have the character be recognizable.

Had so much fun designing this guy and his pack of "hellhounds," I def need to at some point upload some other angles though, since the whole "war train" centipede-like body isn't shown with this particular angle. Stuff for an artbook/process sketch book sometime I guess

Selection of photos of the Yi Qi BJD I whipped up in time for DinoCon this year! 3D printed in resin. Still looking for sturdier mixes, but I like how these turned out. In terms of showing off the sculpt details, I almost prefer the unpainted one, since that way you're not distracted from the shapes & forms!

Instead of business cards, I thought it might be more fun to hand out themed stickers just for DinoCon! (and/or cover up the fact that I still haven't gotten around to updating my actual cards, lmao. But who doesnt like stickers?) Being YiQi themed all the way down for the event wasn't initially my intent but it just ended up that way. Love these little pigeon-sized wyverns!

Man it was already over a month ago, but DinoCon UK was a total blast (and I guess really kicked my brain into paleoart/anatomy study overdrive! More on that later, but I've been on a paleoart/anatomy-learning dive these days. It's perhaps going to be a vibe change for people who might know me for other kinds of art in the past, but whatever. I've been having SO much fun with this) Got more pics of these little YiQi fellas queued up though! Learning how to make dolls like this was on my to-learn list for the year, and while these are fairly simple design as far as articulated toys can go, I'm pretty happy with how they turned out. I'll also use this ramble post as a reminder that I still run my own website, and it's the primary place I put things.
