IâM NOT GOING BACK BEHIND THAT WALL. AND AT THE END OF THIS, THATâS WHAT THEYâLL WANT.Â
the harsh burn of straight vodka upon your tongue, the warmth that follows deep in your chest. the faint lingering of smoke. car exhaust. motor oil.  soft and sweet perfume. a frame that surrounds an old, worn black and white photograph. an engine of a car; a figure hunched over it. an open tool box, greasy fingerprints atop the faded paint. a dimly lit narrow street after dark, devoid of any people. over-sized sunglasses. cars, a Jaguar MK9. bruised hands resting upon a steering well. grease smeared upon navy coveralls. a blade strapped to a lace holster. a gun concealed within a handbag. high walls, barb wire.  a city in ruins. the revving of a car. the thud of a trunk closing, the slight creak of the hood when opened. soft clinking  â tools attending the inner-workings of a car. gentle humming. tunes playing from a record player. rubble cracking and crumbling under foot. thin fingers. worn palms, strong hands. doe-eyes, framed by thick lashes. blossoms of darkness under eyes. a sharp glare. lithe form, taut muscles. loose strands of hairs caressing a sharp jaw.  a stiff and rigid stance. delicate wrists. bruises atop the sharp curve of knuckles.
independent and selective GABY TELLER              of the man from u.n.c.l.e. est. 2015. revamped april 2018.
a series of unfortunate events,   book the first: the bad beginning.
what do you think it is?Â
it only seems scary because of the mist.Â
it is a nice day. iâm afraid i have some very bad news for you.Â
the entire house was engulfed in fire. it burned to the ground.Â
where will we go?Â
just how is he related to us exactly?
thatâs an unusual first name.Â
what a terrible place!Â
i donât want to live there at all!
wipe your feet outside so no mud gets indoors.Â
this room looks like it needs a little work.
perhaps with a bit of your money we could fix it up a little nicer.Â
i hope you will be very happy here.Â
have dinner ready by the time they arrive.
stay out of our way. none of us knows how to cook.Â
i wish they were here. i hate it here! i hate this house! i hate our room! i hate having to do all these chores, and i hate him!
we have to keep our chin up.
it is very difficult to keep oneâs chin up when he keeps shoving it down.Â
we havenât found any books in this house at all.Â
i can tell you it concerns a poisonous plant and illegal use of someoneâs credit card.Â
is there anything you desire?Â
this is a wonderful library!Â
as long as you keep them in good condition, you are welcome to use any of my books.Â
it is a pleasure to see young people interested in books.Â
you seem like very intelligent people.Â
where is the roast beef?Â
i am not someone to be trifled with.Â
put her down immediately, you beast!Â
perhaps by the time these brats serve us, we will be too drunk to care.Â
if i were you i would try not to anger him, or he might wreck that pretty little face of yours.
you know perfectly well we havenât any money.Â
if i know you, youâll figure out a way to get at that money.Â
clearly, we cannot stay here any longer.Â
i would rather take my chances on the streets than live in this terrible place.Â
who knows what misfortunes would befall us on the streets?Â
in the meantime, we have to do something about our predicament.Â
we donât really have a question. we have a complaint.Â
we cannot stay with him.Â
thereâs nothing i can do about it.Â
youâll do nothing to help us.Â
arenât raspberries delicious?Â
a pretty girl like you shouldnât be working backstage.Â
i have such an important role for you.Â
i would hate to disgrace your good name.Â
i would prefer it if you would participate voluntarily.Â
he must be up to something.Â
killing us would do him no good.Â
today i donât think iâll choose a book on wolves.Â
make sure she doesnât eat any dirt.Â
she wouldnât help us anyway.Â
have you found anything in your book yet?Â
he struck me across the face.Â
you are to return to the house immediately.Â
why are you reading that?Â
the only reason he hasnât torn you limb from limb is that he hasnât gotten hold of your money.Â
what reason will he have to keep you alive after he has your money?Â
so if i were you, iâd start acting a little nicer.Â
where did you get that book?Â
whatâs important is that i have found out your plan.Â
what is my plan, you little runt?Â
a man like myself can acquire any number of beautiful women.Â
iâm sure theyâll want to know all about your grand victory over my evil ways.Â
sheâs not the type to run off.Â
it certainly is strange to find a child missing.Â
what have you done with her?Â
for someone who reads so much, you are remarkably unintelligent.Â
let her go!Â
weâll do anything, anything, just donât harm her.Â
she is perfectly safe, for now.Â
i consider her to be a stick behind a stubborn mule.Â
you will do as i say, to avoid the punishment, and because you want the reward of surviving this experience.Â
youâre such a lovely girl.Â
i wouldnât dispose of you.Â
youâre a terrible man.Â
you may have read more books than i have, but it didnât help you gain the upper hand in this situation.
how pleasant that you could join us.Â
i was just thinking how much i wanted to see your pretty face.Â
what are you going to do with me?Â
no monkey business, or i will have to tie you up and let you dangle out of the window.Â
you must have been terrified.Â
if we had any kerosene, i could make molotov cocktails with these bottles.Â
we could break these bottles in half and use them as knives.Â
we appreciate all youâve done for us.Â
break a leg!Â
this is dreadful nonsense.Â
iâm afraid this dreadful nonsense is the law.
i canât believe how easily i was tricked.Â
donât think youâre so safe.Â
you are a liar!Â
send him to jail!
heâs an evil man!Â
did you really mean what you said?Â
iâll get my hands on your fortune if itâs the last thing i do.Â
iâll kill you and your siblings with my own two hands.Â
we will miss you very much.Â

ID: âťÂ MOSTEFFECTIVEAGENT.
@mechanicteller¡ âĄâd !
itâs deliberate, really â testing his luck as well as her patience, but perhaps it would be wise for one agent solo not to pilfer from the members in his team when, in fact, he should devote himself to keeping their trust.  ( but itâs all too easy, you see; in that regard, itâs all too tempting. ) perhaps that charmingly menacing little grin that spreads across his lips is telling enough in its own rite; dear agent teller will find that sheâs missing a lovely pair of earrings picked out by their beloved russian friend.
SHE INCLINES FORWARD, bringing herself closer to the mirror to examine her make up with further clarity.  her mouth twists in uncertainty;  the world of fashion & beauty remains an intimidating enigma. indeed, sheâs improved over time, sheâd even go far enough to say sheâs developing a personal style of sorts.  however, feelings of unease persist in her chest;  she finds herself missing the simplicity  &  homeliness of the chop shop, her too - big grease splattered coveralls  & faded red tool box.  gaby sighs, the muscle in her jaw pulses  &  she attempts to relax her shoulders. Â
her fingers run atop the surface of the dresser, searching for her earrings to complete the ensemble. Â apparently, sheâs been told, that earrings are an essential component to just about every outfit. Â gaby glances down, brow creasing when she notices the empty space on the dresser. Â she has an impeccable ability to memorize, Â & Â she definitely remembered the dark navy box housing the earrings being there just a few moments ago. Â it doesnât take her long to solve the mystery of their whereabouts.
she turns slowly to look at her companion, who is ready  &  waiting with his winning smile  &  faux boyish innocence. gaby can see the mischief in the corners of his mouth &  the taunting glint in his eye.  her lips purse,  eyes narrowing  &  she holds out her upturned palm.  â  solo,  â  she begins, her dark eyebrows arched.  she speaks steadily, but her tone lacks any malice.   â  you didnât happen to see my earrings did you?  i was sure they were just on the dresser.  â  sheâll play along just this once.
