Concept sketches of Moguera from The Mysterians (1957).

Moguera was originally conceived to be a kaiju that had characteristics of both a mole and a reptile. Director Ishiro Honda changed the kaiju to a giant robot as a way to demonstrate The Mysterians advanced technology.

Many of the Moguera's original design elements were later incorporated into the design of Baragon in Frankenstein vs. Baragon (1965), aka Frankenstein Conquers the World.
