Ok so I had this theory about who the roaring knight is. I know itās kinda tied between Carol and Dess. I think itās Carol for a couple reasons
1: antler shape: Carolās antlers are sharp and angular. While we donāt necessarily know what Dessās look like(we do in the picture of her as a child, but maybe they changed shape when she got older), Carol is the most likely candidate, given that we know the antlers match.
2: Krisās phone calls: while Susie and Kris are at Noelleās house, Kris removes their soul. While their soul is removed Kris makes a couple phone calls(later deleted from the call log) to an unknown person, until the person says, āIāll be right there.ā Moments later Carol arrives home and removes both Susie and Kris from the home stating that they(Kris) are always welcome.
Ok so Kris and Carol are in kahoots. What does that have to do with the roaring knight? If you spy on Kris in the kitchen, Carol says, ādark fountain⦠nextā then later āchurch tonight.ā
3: actions: when Kris is leaving Noelleās house in chapter 4, Carol walks behind then, placing her hand on their shoulder. This act is mirrored when you fight the roaring knight at the end of chapter 3. If you āwinā the knight attacks Susie and Ralsei, knocking them to the ground before approaching Kris, placing their(the knightās) sword on their(Krisās) shoulder, and lowering them to the ground.
4:weapon: the roaring knight uses a sword, and Carol owns a katana(as seen in her kitchen). Itās possible that these arenāt necessarily the same weapon as things tend to be much larger in the dark world than real life(ie: Susieās hairbrush-axe, Krisās pencil-sword/sheld), but I donāt think itās necessarily far off to say the possession of a sword was at least inspired by this katana.
Now hereās the part that tripped me up originally: why would Carol, the supposedly perfect mayor, want to end the world?
What if her motivation has nothing to do with the fate of the world? What if sheās opening dark worlds in different locations to find her missing daughter?
There were a couple points that tripped me up. Why would Kris work with Carol on this, especially if they know the risks?
One possible reason is guilt. Maybe Kris had something to do with Dessās disappearance (accidentally) and now feels personally responsible for getting her back.
Another possible reason is some sort of enjoyment/ happiness from being in the dark world.
Whatever the reasoning is, I donāt think the the dark world opened at the end of chapter 2 was spontaneous. It was almost definitely a planned moment by Kris(at the very least).
When Kris removes their soul in chapter 2, they climb out the window and are implied to have slashed Torielās tires. This bring Undyne to Torielās house to check out the damage. Some time after, Kris opens the dark world in their living room.
