Chapter 1 Chapter 2
Now, onto the lore and other silly stuff
LORE:
They live in an entire community, and they all have different roles. Like the healer, the hunter, the resource manager, the writers, the poets, the enchanters, guards, and the leader- the ones that I made are all hunters, but Robin wants to be a writer or a poet, and Nyxen doesn’t know what he wants to be. And all of the creatures have the ability to shape shift into humans, so they all have human forms. I still have to make the others human forms, but the hunters usually use them the most to lure humans into a trap to then kill them and bring them back to the dens and the colony to eat. :3

Nyxen was woken yet again by a rock colliding with their wing, causing them to yelp and fall to the ground with a thud. They roll their eyes, getting up and glaring at Elyn.
“I’m going out hunting. Gonna show Crow how to be quiet while hunting as well. You don’t get any ideas. Don’t go sneaking off where you’re not supposed to. Got it?” Elyn says firmly, his voice bitter and commanding.
“Got it…” Nyxen mutters, crossing their arms as Elyn leaves. They wait until Elyn and Crow are completely out of sight, before heading over to the young one’s den, peeking in and gesturing to Robin to follow them. Robin looks up from her paper that she was writing or drawing on, smiling and grabbing her pencil (basically just a stick of charcoal) and making her way after Nyxen.
They both walk through the forest for a bit, before approaching a clearing a ways away from the colony, where Aspyn had suggested they meet. They shift into their human forms, as does Robin, who’s still holding her writing materials. They both stop by a creek running along the small clearing, Robin climbing a pile of nearby rocks, perching on a flat rock and lying on her stomach, setting the parchment down in front of her, starting to drag her charcoal along it with expert strokes, drawing something. Nyxen sits by the creek, staring into the flowing water. They pick up one of the rocks, holding it in their hand, looking at it.
They don’t seem to hear footsteps approaching them, but they see the reflection of Aspyn approaching them from behind and sitting down next to them. Nyxen looks up, smiling softly. They look over their shoulder, seeing Willow climbing up onto the rock, with Robins help.
Nyxen looks back at Aspyn, smiling again softly.
“Hey… uh… h-how are you doing..?” Nyxen asks nervously, not knowing how else to start the conversation.
“I’m good- what about you?” Aspyn asks, tilting his head slightly.
“I’m fine…” Nyxen says, growing a little flustered at the eye contact, timidly rubbing the back of their neck.
Aspyn smiles, looking back at the creek in front of them. He runs his hand through the water, flicking it at Nyxen playfully.
“You okay? You look really tired.”
“Yeah- yeah I’m fine. I just had trouble sleeping last night.” Nyxen says, still avoiding eye contact.
Aspyn looks back at the water, still smiling. “So, where did you two come from?” He asks, glancing at Nyxen with a curious look.
Nyxen feels alarmed for a brief moment, but hides it, not wanting to act suspicious.
“Wh-what do you mean?”
“I mean- I haven’t seen you guys in the village. You live somewhere else?”
“O-oh- yeah- we live in a different village.” Nyxen says, nodding.
“Ah. I see.” Aspyn responds, looking back at the water.
(Need more ideas lol- idk where to go with this. Ig I’m gonna leave off here until inspiration hits.)
Elyn sat in his nest, leaned against the wall. He stared at Nyxen, who had been hanging from the ingrown branch by their tail, still sleeping since Elyn had woken up over an hour ago. Elyn had been sitting there, waiting for them to wake up so they could go out hunting, but he had waited long enough and was getting impatient. He picks up a rock and chucks it at Nyxen, which hits them right in the wing. They let out a yelp, falling to the ground with a thud.
“The hell was that for???” Nyxen asks as they get up, dusting themselves off and flicking their tail, annoyed.
“Great! Your up. Now let’s go hunt.” Elyn responded, not answering Nyxens question as he gets up and heads toward the den entrance.
Nyxen groans, following him reluctantly. Elyn makes their way to another den, knocking on the wood by the entrance.
“Kyla! Crow! Get up, we’re goin out hunting! Oh- and Robin” Elyn shouts, before making their way off into the forest.
The three scurry out of the cave, making their way after the two older creatures. Crow and Kyla are arguing about… something, Robin staying quiet. Nyxen rolls their eyes and Elyn heads towards the humans dens, or “village” as they call it in human-speak.
Elyn stops, their ears perking up at the sound. He flicks Crow and Kyla with his tail, shutting them up. He pulls them and Robin down behind some bushes, pointing towards a group of juvenile humans, two males and one female, whispering something to the three.
“You guys been working on your human-speak?”
“Yeah, we have.” Kyla responds “But Robin hasn’t, shes been writing on the wall!” Crow buts in, his ears folding back in annoyance.
Elyn puts his hand over Crows mouth, shushing him, which causes them all to shut up. Elyn glances through the bushes at the three humans, taking in their appearance.
“Well, since Robin hasn’t been studying,” Elyn says, throwing a sharp look at Robin, before looking back at the two. “can you tell me which one looks like the easiest target?”
Kyla points at one of the shortest of the two humans as they approach the three that have been standing there, chattering in human-speak.
“That one.” she whispers, her voice positive and confident.
Crow nods in agreement, his tail twitching in anticipation.
“Good. Now, you guys have been practicing your human-shifting, right?”
They both nod.
“Ooh! Can i go lure it? Please???” Crow asks, practically begging.
Elyn rolls their eyes, but nods, which Crow responds to with a quiet “yes-!”.
Suddenly, one of the older humans, probably around 16 to 17 human years, stops chattering, looking in the direction of the group of creatures, its raven colored locks shifting as it turns its head, its blue and grey eyes scanning the bushes. It whispers something to the group of humans, and their faces pale. Elyn realizes they might have heard them and immediately pulls Crow, Kyla and robin away, hiding in thicker bushes.
“Never mind- they heard us so i need you to be quiet” Elyn says, glancing at the humans as they turn away, probably viewing it as a false alarm. He notices Nyxen still watching the humans, and he grabs them by the shoulder.
“What are you doing???” Elyn hisses at them, his eyes narrowing.
“He’s pretty…” Nyxen mutters, their awe filled eyes fixed on the blue-grey eyed human, their voice filled with awe and amazement.
Elyn looks at Nyxen like they had grown another head, deeply confused but rolling their eyes.
“And you’re ugly. Now let’s go.” Elyn says, lifting them up by the shoulder and pulling them away, motioning for the young ones to follow.
Nyxen just continues to stare at the human, awestruck and zoned out. But once Elyn stops to guide the young ones back to their den, and heads to theirs, only then does Nyxen snap out of his starry eyed trance.
“The hell was that about?” Elyn asks Nyxen as they sit down in their den, Elyns gaze harsh and filled with disgust.
“d-did you see him? He- he was so…” Nyxen starts before getting cut off by Elyn. “You need to get your head out of the clouds. Are you in love with that human?!”
“W-what? No! No, of course not!” Nyxen responds, looking up at Elyn with a confused and shocked expression.
“Well it didn’t look like it. If you dont get your shit together, i will tell the leader and have you banished from the colony.”
“It was one time! It wasn’t that serious.”
“I dont care. I cant have you getting distracted by some filthy human. Humans fear us. You think he’d like you back?” Elyn hissed, his eyes narrow.
“No. No he wouldn’t.” Nyxen says quietly, looking down.
“Good. I’m going back out there and i am going to do my job. You dont get any ideas, got it?”
Nyxen nods, looking ashamed. Elyn gives them a glare, before turning and leaving the den again.
Nyxen just sits there, arms crossed, staring at the ground. Robin peeks into the den, her tail twitching softly. She tilts her head, stepping into the den. Nyxen looks up, sitting up slightly.
“Hey, Robin… wh-what are you doing here?” Nyxen asks, tilting their head
“I was bored.. and i was wondering why you were looking at that dark haired human like that.” She says, glancing up at them.
“Oh… you saw that… well- i just thought he looked… nice.” Nyxen says quietly, seeming ashamed.
“I dont mind… you maybe wanna see if they’re still there? I doubt Elyn will be hunting near there, and since they know we were there they’re off limits for hunting,” Robin says, smiling softly. “So.. if you want, we could try to see if they’re there… and maybe say hi.”
“What? No, robin, they’re scared of us. We could be banished.” Nyxen says frantically, their ears folding back.
“No, no i meant in our human forms. I know i dont know much human-speak, but i can manage.” Robin explains, her ears folding back as she approaches Nyxen, her tail swaying softly.
“Oh… well…” they look away, thinking. “Why not.” They say, getting up and smiling softly, as they follow Robin out of the den, trying to retrace their steps to the place they were before.
Once they hear the humans voices, one male and one probably a younger female, Nyxen stops, their ears perking up. They hide in the bushes with Robin, but freeze as they see the blue-gray eyed human, their eyes widening. The dark haired human is with a younger long dark haired female human, probably the older humans sister.
“Is that him?” Robin whispers, looking at the humans.
“Yeah… that’s him.” Nyxen whispers, their gaze never leaving the blue-gray eyed human.
“Well- you ready to switch to a human and say hi? I kinda wanna say hi to the girl- she looks nice.” Robin says, smiling at Nyxen.
“Alright-“ Nyxen moves to a more concealed area, twitching their tail once, twice, and the third time their features start to shift. Their snout shrinks, their antenna, tails, wings, tail and fur disappearing. Their form shifts into a human with pale skin, brown hair with red at the ends with eyes of vibrant emerald green, in a black sweater and grey cargo pants.
Robin follows, flicking her tail three times, her form shifting to a young pale skinned human girl with long wavy brown hair and hazel eyes, wearing a soft, light blue sweater, a cute bow in her hair.
“Come on- i’ll do most of the talking, since you don’t speak much human-speak.” Nyxen says, as Robin nods, following them as they walk towards the two humans.
The male human looks up, tilting their head in confusion. Nyxen seems a little nervous, rubbing the back of their neck, not knowing how to start the conversation.
“Uh.. you knew around here…?” The human asks, smiling.
“Y-yeah. Sorta got lost, exploring the woods-“ Nyxen says, their voice soft and sort of shaky.
“Really? The woods where the creatures are? Wow, you must be really new here.” The little girl asks, tilting her head.
The boy rolls his eyes, smiling still. “Don’t listen to her, she believes all the stories the elders spread about the creatures in the woods. Anyways- whats your guys names?” He asks, tilting his head and smiling reassuringly.
“Uh- I’m Nyxen and- this is Robin.” Nyxen says, trying to sound confident despite panicking on the inside.
“Cool name. I’m Aspyn, and this is Willow.” He says, gesturing at the girl next to him who waves, smiling brightly.
(Idk what they do next- they just hang out for a bit and then Nyxen and Robin have to leave but then Aspyn invites them back tomorrow. So we’re skipping to that)
Nyxen waves to Robin as she sneaks back into her den, in which Crow and Kyla are sleeping on top of eachother, Crow snoring softly. Nyxen hops up to the branch and hangs by their tail, wrapping their wings around themselves to act casual as they wait for Elyn to get back.
Eventually, Elyn does get back, giving Nyxen a glare.
“Had a successful hunt. Caught a human and a couple of deer. Told the leader that those humans were off limits due to your screw up.”
“It wasn’t my fault! Crow was the one who wasn’t being stealthy. I didn’t say a word.” Nyxen protests, seeming offended.
“Mhm. Sure.” Elyn mutters, walking over to their nest and sitting down, their tail curling slightly.
Nyxen rolls their eyes, turning away and wrapping their wings tighter around themselves, quietly thinking about Aspyn, but trying not to. They can’t get over how friendly he was. Was he telling the truth about not believing the rumor of their colony, living it the woods? The way he said it sounded like he was truthful.
No- no, stop. Stop thinking about the human. They’re scared of us. We’re supposed to hunt them, and kill them. End of story. They shouldn’t have feelings for a human.
Eventually, as the sun started to set on the horizon, as Elyn drifted off to sleep, Nyxen hung there, awake, thinking. They stared at the sky growing more dark and the last light of the sun fades beyond the horizon, watching as stars start to appear in the sky. Nyxen grew more tired the more they thought, and their eyes eventually drifted shut, their thoughts fading as sleep washed over their mind.
